• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Im sooo frustrated with myself :swoon:
my desires to quit smoking seems to be not enough.. to actually quit , I knew that once I re- dedicated my life back to God the fight was going to be tough.. I did quit smoking years ago , when I gave my life to Jesus.. but I didnt stay " faithful" I allowed situations to pull me away from God - and returned back into the devils kingdom.
The Bible says that when we leave God we gain " 7 - demons" and when we return back to him , those demons are with us.. so the struggle to clean your temple is harder. the mere fact that the Holy Spirit will not dwell in my temple due to smoking cigarettes makes me ' sick" and guilty.
I have to remeber and keep in mind that this is a spiritual fight.. satan wants me to continue to smoke and ' defile ' my temple.. but the word of my Father says - greater is he thats in you , than he thats in the world...

Keep the faith alive. Take it from someone who has tried many times and failed - He can conquer. I am now over a year out of smoking thanks to this site and the love of God. If I can do it so can you. Praying for you, Evie

I hear you sister...

The Bible says that when we leave God we gain " 7 - demons"
This is interesting and explains a lot... do you remember where there was (What book)?

the mere fact that the Holy Spirit will not dwell in my temple due to smoking cigarettes makes me ' sick" and guilty.

I can identify with how you feel, but take heart. Smoking is like any sin, no greater or worse in God's eyes. This being said, if having the holy spirit was dependent on being free of sin, Peter never would have received it @ Pentecost. Therefore...

I am "gearing up" to quit smoking also. You have my support and prayers.

smoking is such a disgusting habit, and i encourage you to stay strong in quitting. I was successful for a while this time around at quitting, but have slipped back to smoking smoke. Even though i'm doing it again, it smells and tastes pretty gross, which is something i had forgot about when i was smoking on a regular basis. UGH!

that is what I noticed too, when I quit years ago was how strong the smoke smell on people really is. You just dont notice it when you are a smoker.

Hisspirit, a good thing to do is make a list of all the reasons you want to quit, in order to really quit you have to have enough reasons why you dont want to smoke to help you through those times where your body is telling you "come on you know you want to"

That's a real good idea. As a recovering alcoholic (only 5 months, so at times pretty tempted), I need to keep going over the reasons I can't take that first drink, and battle myself to be obedient to God.

Also, what has helped me, I have a small cross on my wallet chain. When things get real hairy, I just grab on to that to focus myself.

I am headed to a christian retreat in upstate WA early July for 3 mos.... This place is sooooo remote (how remote is it?) well, it's so remote it is a 5 hour boat ride from the nearest town. Holdenvillage.org. I feel this is going to be the perfect opportunity to quit. I am not bringing any with me, and can't see myself "bumming" during that time.

I don't mean to be difficult here or contraversial(sorry for the spelling)...but I was a smoker and got filled with The Holy Spirit. I quit smoking a couple months or so after that occured(filled with The Spirit)...and God had to help me do it!!!

You caught my attention when you stated "The mere fact that The Holy Spirit will not dwell in your(my) temple"...I'm sorry I cannot agree with that in my experience.

I hope everyone has success with their quitting. It is very difficult to stop smoking! I could not do it w/o Jesus.

God bless everyone!
