• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

with faith as of now. There are times when i doubt and i really hate myself for it. I cant explain it, there are times when i know that i was visited by Christ, then there are times when i have a hard time believing. Its so backwords at times i dont understand why i am here in this mess.

on top of all that im going to start teaching sunday school next sunday with a buddy of mine, i hope that this could be somewhat of a jumpstart back into a more faithful state of mind. its just hard for me being in a world where people are so doubtful and im berraded by their doubt so often :sigh:

nathan57, welcome to the crowd. We all grow through that. Someone once said this: "though our feelings come and go, His love for us does not."
Hang in there and savor the times that Christ visited you. Do you write down your prays when they are answered? If not, it's a good way to remind ourselves of God's faithfulness.
Thanks,
TT

If we didn't question our faith it wouldn't be ours.. It would be our fathers.. or their fathers.. Tradition (Fathers faith) can be defined as: Things we sometimes do in the church, but don't know why. I want you to be reassured in your questioning because the spirit directed Paul to write: "Question all things, and to hold fast to what's good..." In this case I think your spiritual needs maybe exceeding your current capacity. (Meaning) the same faith you had as a Child and teenager, may not be enough for your role as a collage age Sunday School Teacher.. and weather you know it or not your spirit hungers for more, and what you've been feeding it may not be enough... So, question and ask God for guidance. But if your like me and can't always hear him speak, ask him for a spiritual mentor. Or if your really up for a rollercoaster ride ask him to break you spiritually so that you may hear him more clearly. Or just pray for wisdom to help you decern what it is you need to ask for.

Hi Nathan
We all have those thoughts sometimes..
It is in the dry times that a plant's foots grow strong and deep, although nothing may be happening above the ground.
And it is often the same for us - when you can't see God working, when you are desperate for what you have known but cannot find, your spirit is growing, your roots are increasing, and eventually, when the rain of the Spirit comes, you will be redy to burst into flower.
Keep praying, keep reading the Bible, keep crying out to God, and He will meet you.

Proverbs 8:17
I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.

Jeremiah 29:13
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Matthew 7:8
For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

Praying for you, brother.

Don't feel bad for questioning your faith. I think there are too few who believe for the right reasons, and too many who believe for the wrong ones. Faith should be a personal thing, but too often people claim to hold it dear when really all they hold dear is the ability to identify with a particular group.

“I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.” - Stephen Roberts

Before you can have faith, you have to seriously examine why you should have faith, and what you believe, and whether it makes sense to you. There's no easy way, but if the path to faith and salvation were easy, there would be no point.

Best of luck.

God asks us to bring order into the chaos of our lives. We live for the purpose of loving and helping eachother, without forgetting to tend to ourselves.

Its perfectly ok to doubt, we as human beings want validation for what we are and what we do in our lives. We want confirmation. This confirmation we can find into the words of Christ, what he says still counts today, take a look at any of his words and try to find a lie in it. Take his examples into practise and see if its true or not. If its not true then you have no reason to belief, if it is true then you have reason to belief and to know that he is the son of God.
