Hi everyone. I've been back at Christian Forums for ages, but I haven't come to this forum, for some reason.

Anyway, I've been accepted into Victoria University, so come March 1; I will begin my journey to Orthodoxy. The fact that the Greek Orthodox Church is just down the road from my university is fantastic news.

However, my mother is a strong Roman Catholic, and is strongly against my conversion. Aside from the fact I can choose what religion I want; is there anything I can say to her to convince her that I am making the right choice?

Also, whenever I am asked why I want to convert from Roman Catholicism to Orthodoxy; I don't know what to say. I mean; I have tonnes of reasons, but I just can't express/explain them. Can anyone help me out?

Is there anything/anyone that says a Greek Orthodox cannot teach Religious Studies in a Roman Catholic school? The nun who runs the Certificate in Catechetical Studies says from the Catholic view there is no problem.

Thanks heaps, see you all soon. Keep in touch. :)

There is also an Orthodox monastery in Melbourne (can't remember the address though). When visiting the monasterys at Meteora (Kalambaka, Greece), we met a nun who had been many years at the afore mentioned monastery before coming to Greece.

Congratulations on you acceptance BTW.

John.

Dear Matthias: I just wanted to say that I am very happy for you on your acceptance to University and your desire to follow Jesus wherever He leads you. I am a recent convert from Protestantism and so far, most of my friends and family have been fairly supportive. I have also had difficulty, though in expressing my decision. I am in the process right now of writing a letter to my former pastor and it is very painful, because I don't want him to think that I am ungrateful for his teaching or that I have anything against my former denomination. I think this is the most important we can express: that we love our brothers and sisters in Christ, but that Jesus is leading us somewhere where He has a plan for us. My mother is very supportive, unfortunately my husband waffles between indifference and hostility. All we can really do is leave it in God's hands.
