Don't forget we are speaking about the average person in the pew - our knowledge is much greater than theirs (I hope)

John's gospel is dated about 105 ad.
John's gospel is dated about 105 ad.
Um - why would it be mentioned? It was the story of what Our Lord did during his earthly ministry.Thos who hold to a date after 70 ad assume that because the destruction of Jerusalen was known that is why John didn't mention it.
Other hold to a pre ad 70 date because the destruction was a significant event that would be natural to refer to.

It does not even record the ascension, which was more important and certainly happened before it was written. It does not record what happened on Pentecost, 50 days after the resurrection.
The destruction of the Temple is outside the scope of the book.
To our minds, perhaps. While John doesn't record Jesus's predictions of the distruction of Jerusalem, it would be worth recording this confirmation of prophercy as well as giving a historical event that would help date his writing.
I don't think any part of the Gospel. That would have been John the Apostle that Yeshua loved.John the baptist did NOT write all 21 chapters in the Gospel attributed to him. He died before Yeshua died, so he couldn't have known what happened immediately before Yeshua's death, and after, and written it down.

Why would anyone attribute the Book of John to JtB? It was written by John, the son of Zebedee. He wrote 1-3 John and Revelations, too.
I have never came across anyone who thought that.
Someone wrote it, and determining who that was might not be beyond the reaches of reasonable certainty. We don't know who wrote it for sure. Over time academics have suggested: John Mark, Lazarus, Thomas, John the Baptist, and John the son of Zebedee. The one that it is traditionally ascribed to is the last one.

I believe it was written for him by an unknown person-s.
