  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Several hours ago, I had to walk a mile home from work in sub-zero temperature. Now, as I'm about to go to sleep, we are keeping all the lights on in the house in hopes that the heat from each light bulb will prevent the pipes from freezing.

It's times like these when I wonder what would really be worse: a hell of fire or a hell of ice. ;)

I'm in Eastern WA and it's cold here too. I just took my dog out about 30 minutes ago for her last potty break and it was quite chilly. My pup doesn't seem to mind though:cool:

Hey, I'm in WA state too, in the mountains east of Seattle. It's been pretty cold today. I hope we get more snow, we need the snowpack!

This weather is terrible!!!!!
Well, I used to live in sunny California---but it's not sunny anymore. I haven't seen the sun since Christmas Eve!!!!:( I'm getting depressed because of it.
While I'm not experiencing the cold quite as bad as some of you-- it is colder than it normally should be for us here in California.
Oh yeah, I forgot the rain---rain, rain and more rain!!!!! Tomorrow it's going to be raining again---good grief!!!!

We run the water to keep the pipes from freezing but that is only when it gets down in the 20’s which is rare. It is 47 right now …and darn cold! I just went to the store and I was cold.

I still don’t have any heat either and won’t util I can make a claim on my home warranty but the house isn’t cold in the least. Thank God for the gift of good insulation.

Well, it's been in the seventies and sunny for the last week or so here. :) But that all changed yesterday when we got rain, and the temp last night got down in the forties. :( I was kinda hoping winter would skip us this year.
We had that on Thursday, our weather must have went your way.

It has been consistently 70 the whole winter accept for a snow day and right before the rain came on Tuesday and Wednesday it was even 80 and beautiful.

Here in west Michigan we've been getting highs in the low teens and lows of zero to five above at night; last night we had wind chills of 15 to 25 degrees below zero.

I had a new trainee with me at work last night, and I told her we were going to do the outside stuff real quick, and right off the bat, while it was still daylight. For one thing, in daylight she could get a better grasp of where she was on the far reaches of the campus, but for another thing ( and even more importantly), in daylight it was still about 14 or 15 degrees outside; after dark it got subzero.

Yes, even down south they can freeze. If they do freeze and you run the water then they can break and if that happens you have a real mess on your hands.

The first year we moved here (northern California) we had our pipes outside of the house freeze, and break. That was an unusually cold winter, though. It was a mess! A lot of people had the problem, and everyone in our neighborhood installed insulation on the pipes after that, which is just a foam rubber cover. Have not had that occurrence since.

From the Book of Daniel, chapter 3....

66 O ye fire and heat, bless the Lord: praise and exalt him above all for ever. 67 O ye cold and heat, bless the Lord: praise and exalt him above all for ever. 68 O ye dews and hoar frosts, bless the Lord: praise and exalt him above all for ever. 69 O ye frost and cold, bless the Lord: praise and exalt him above all for ever. 70 O ye ice and snow, bless the Lord: praise and exalt him above all for ever.

There's something called 'heat tape', that works great. You put it on the pipes and plug it in. :) Insulating the pipes won't do too much without a heat source. You put the heat tape under the insulation.

It's 15 outside now here, brrrr... I'm baking fresh bread and my kids are squabbling. (Now they are doing chores though. Occupational therapy, if you know what I mean)
