  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I wonder how many here, let alone alive, would be happy to cease to exist upon death, simply being happy knowing that we have done our part in forwarding that God's Will will prevail, and not ours. That the battle has always been, not about us, but about God's Will ultimately overcoming the adversarial will He contends with. That it is all about Him.

I don't know about that. The idea of salvation and eternal life is pretty attractive and I would gladly receive it. That said, I have always had somewhat of a problem with it as the end goal. When I think about it too hard, it seems to me to be a bit self-serving to be a Christian for the sole purpose of saving one's bacon. I prefer seeing the purpose as being a good disciple, loving God, and walking as Jesus walked. I reckon I see eternal life as the reward for fulfilling the purpose, not as being the purpose.
