CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't agree with the last statement. Marilyn Manson, when asked what he would have said to the killers of Columbine, to prevent it, was, "nothing. I would listen. And that's what no one did."
I think that there is some truth in that. If people are getting bullied, they need someone to talk to about it, and yeah, sometimes people snap, and everyone acts surprised.

A dog, no. A human being, yes. Many of us, I'm sure either know people or know of people who were in very abusive situations at home, yet didn't resort to violence. They were messed up in some other way, doubtless, but not in the way that leads to murder. I believer that the common factor amongst those mass and serial murderers is an extreme narcissism.

Not all the dogs you tease will bite you either. The sad fact is that many people are more concerned with cute seal cubs getting smacked around, then timmy next door who is getting the snot beat out of him on a daily basis, well they dont care untill timmy gets a gun and starts blowing people away. Then there is six months of outcry and then life goes back to normal...poor little baby seals.

That's a very interesting article. I've wondered about the lack of conscience and empathy required for someone to do such horrible things. Narcisism adds a dimension that helps me understand the lack of empathy. It's frightening that people can become so warped.
