  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It's a tsunami coming!

I was feeling down; thinking about the election today; as if it is a close race; it could go on for weeks; if not months; no matter who is in the lead.

But after watching all the cable news channels since early this morning; EDT time; and watching a couple of cable comedy talk shows from cable; on YouTube; I was getting more and more optimistic as the day wore on.

What really put it over the top; was watching the Stephen Colbert show with Cher as a guest. I know she is older then Elvis' ghost; but she made an ad for Joe Biden; and it is very up-lifting. Give it a listen. :)

Cher Tells Stephen Why She's Such A Huge Fan Of Joe Biden

Now I wonder what Sonny would have said about voting for Trump if he were still alive today.

Probably that he would come back an haunt anyone that did. :D

I was watching the David Letterman show back in 1987 and was shocked when he and Cher sang "I Got you Babe" for the last time. I cried a little.:)

I would rather kill myself then watch Cher endorse Biden.

Hahahahaha. I'm definitely not a Republican, but I had that exact thought too.

I don't mind Cher as a performer. In fact, in the right setting her wobbly, weird voice can actually sorta fit things (like some of her 80s stuff, e.g., "If I Could Turn Back Time"), plus she's Armenian, so y'know, she's plus a few points for that in my admittedly biased book, but my goodness I can't think of anyone I'd less like to be lectured by concerning politics! At least when another artist like Springsteen does similar stuff it makes sense because they're known to put their politics into their songs ("Born in the USA", "Philadelphia", his involvement with the anti-apartheid single "I Ain't Gonna Play Sun City" in the 1980s, etc.), whereas Cher is known these days primarily for dance club hits like that "Do You Believe in Life After Love" song, or her 1960s/70s material like "I Got You Babe" or "Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves". This is like if the surviving members of Stealers Wheel ("Stuck in the Middle with You") came together to produce a Biden or Trump ad. Their hit was a novelty song that they made to make fun of Bob Dylan for singing incomprehensible, pseudo-'deep' nonsense. Who could possibly care what they say about politics?

We all know the thing that really haunts Cher, forever, in perpetuity throughout the universe: her doomed vanity project with her then-husband Gregg Allman, the cringeworthy Allman & Woman project which resulted in the "Two the Hard Way" album (1977).

If there was an International Criminal Court for artistic endeavors, this would be the first thing I'd haul before a judge. It's basically a crime against humanity in every way possible (aurally, visually, the fact that it exists in the first place, etc). Ugh.

Fun fact: my dad worked for Gregg Allman on one of his last tours before he passed, and he said that in addition to being very particular about his name (apparently he made my dad and everyone else on the tour refer to him as "Gregory"; I have no idea why), this album with Cher was another thing that was basically off limits, as he would get very irritated at any mention of it. Having heard it myself, I can understand why.

Yes; unfortunately he was republican; but maybe that's why he hit that tree; Republicans can't see disaster headed their way. :swoon:

From Wiki:
Bono died on January 5, 1998, of injuries incurred when he hit a tree while skiing at Heavenly Mountain Resort in South Lake Tahoe, California.[28][29] After Bono's death, Mary Bono said that Sonny had been addicted to prescription drugs (mainly Vicodin and Valium) and that she believed her husband's drug use caused the accident; however, no drugs or alcohol were found in his body on autopsy.[28]

At Mary's request, Cher gave a eulogy at Sonny's funeral. He was buried at Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City, California.[30][31] The epitaph on Bono's headstone reads AND THE BEAT GOES ON."

Blue wave forecast as ‘a tsunami that drowns the tech giants’

An antitrust report by Democratic staffers for the House of Representatives this week sent chills down the spine of investors holding shares of the major U.S. technology and internet companies that have driven the bull market. The report signals the likelihood of heightened regulatory scrutiny over these companies, especially if Democrats win the White House and both chambers of Congress in the November elections in a so-called "blue wave."

Max Gokhman, head of asset allocation at Pacific Life Fund Advisors, joined the "What Goes Up" podcast this week to share his thoughts on this and other market developments. Some highlights of the conversation:

"We've been talking about a 'blue wave' a lot. And I think a blue wave is really going to be a tsunami that drowns the tech giants, because the antitrust findings that have been found by that panel ... are pretty substantial. And it's going to be hard for Amazon, for Apple, for Google to say that their marketplaces really are not infringing on companies. I mean, there's been so much more momentum. And it's also been much more momentum within the public, within the electorate to say, yeah, we have concerns about privacy. Yeah, we are hearing from small businesses who are getting pressured by Amazon. There's a lot of developers who complain about Apple's control of the App Store. So all those things create a very different environment than what we saw in years prior. And so regardless of November's outcome, it just doesn't look good for tech."

Among those of us who obsessively track electoral horse-race analysis, it was the shot heard round the world:

This election is looking more like a Democratic tsunami than simply a Blue wave.

Coming from veteran observer Amy Walters of the ultra-cautious Cook Political Report, this was an unusually bold assertion, buttressed, it appears, by her belief that “the president is not interested in changing his approach or focus” despite countless indicators that he needs to in order to survive. She even discounts the possibility that Trump’s dismal performance will create a “checks and balances” undertow benefiting down-ballot Republicans among voters worrying about too much Democratic power:

At least one Republican I spoke with … was wary of a check and balance working this year, telling me that “people are looking for a restart and a reset.” That includes down-ballot candidates as well as the president.

So it might be time to take a cautious and highly conditional look ahead at what a “Democratic tsunami” might look like, and might produce after the elections. Democrats with a superstitious fear of even thinking over-confidently are excused from a further reading of this piece, lest they tempt the Lord Satan (or at least Vladimir Putin) to intervene demonically on the president’s behalf.

News from Pennsylvania - Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow, which must mean another six weeks of election day...
