Now, don't get me wrong I love Christian music (most) and I do like this sound, but it seems to me like alot of male bands have a similar sound---the sound that Lifehouse, Third Day, and all those bands have. The deap sound thing. Does anyone else think so?

The really talented ones have unique touches in music and lyrics where you know it's them. They are few and far between, but they exist.

Yeah you can tell the diffrence, and I'm not generalizing, but I totally agree--unique sound that isn't weird is good----but i also think that it presents some challenges like with Maroon 5's sound they have to be careful of what they sing

The problem being, most Christian artists have no concept of breaking ground and expanding genre horizons, they are just concerned with music that will appeal to the CCM masses, or ever worse, they desire only to be a Christian Version of a Secular Artist, in order to appeal to the Youth Group Kids.

This is true, and even worse is the fact that many christians are content with that.

i'd think playing some real punk rock for the kid would do the deed.

Yeah. How would people who classify Avril Lavigne- and Relient K- as punk react to something from Black Flag, The Sex Pistols, Big Black, Agnostic Front, or Social Distortion? ^_^

I wouldn't consider Third Day to be grunge...they are southern rock...name one southern rock band in CCM other than Third Day. The only time they were grunge is Conspiracy Number 5 and that was back when it was the trend unlike now. :)

Yup. And I wouldn't consider Creed to be grunge. Or pseudo-grunge. They were more "cr@p-tastic!" :)

I'll just add "Thank God for Sufjan Stevens!".
Whenever I get frustrated with the state of Christian art I just listen to Sufjan and am instantly reminded that Christianity and good art don't have to be mutually exclusive.

If Sufjan was on CF, I would give him blessings. Lots of blessings.

You can call Third Day southern rock the same way we can call The Mars Volta prog rock. Talk to Lynyrd Skynyrd or Creedence Clearwater Revival, THEN come back and tell me Third Day is southern rock.
