It is a sin for a man to have long hair

I myself personally do not like long hair, or what some would refer to as medium hair as well.

And I was wondering what length the Bible was referring to when it comes to hair.

Did Samson have long hair?

The mention of long hair in the New Testament People, Churches, Denominations have taken into the Legalistic realm.

1 Cor. 11:14-16
14) Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
15) But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

16) But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

Not beyond the shoulder level. Please.

That seems to be reasonable for you, let me ask then owing to the fact your opinion is such.

When you pray, (Anywhere, Anytime Ever) do you personally cover you head?

1 Cor. 11:13
Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

No.

Paul’s statement was in the context of the social climate of the times. It was the social norm for men to have short hair, and women to have long. He even goes on to say, “judge for yourselves”.

Ok then, if you quote that verse then Paul said.

There isn't any mention of the length of hair.

Paul admonished against a man having long hair, but it was in the context long or plaited hair meant to make oneself attractive. For a man to make himself attractive was to cause women to lust after him. The Didascalia Apostolorum goes further in describing it:

"For to thee, a faithful man of God, it is not permitted to nourish the hair of thy head and to comb and smooth it, which is a wantonness of lust; neither shalt thou arrange and adorn it, nor adjust it so that it may be beautiful."

It goes on to describe the manner of dress for a man as modest. People oftentimes accuse "the patriarchy" of oppressing women by expecting them to dress modestly, but the rules have always been the same for men as well.

Yes. I know. I was only suggesting/requesting not to grow beyond shoulder length but it’s up to each individual.

1 Corinthians 11:14 in the original Greek doesn't actually say anything about hair length, in particular. It merely refers to comeliness, literally.

Anyway, I decided long ago to stop cutting mine to please people. Now it grows to whatever length God made it to grow. I don't touch it. If we were made in the image of God, then I see no need to alter that.

All Jewish men grew their hair up to a year's time then cut it off to offer it by burning, unto God.. it represented that year of their life. However, the Nazerene.. as Jesus, never cut their hair because it represented their life's strength.

In the 70's men and women who'd been influenced by the gospel grew their hair long as Jesus and the women did. If any of the secular kids were told that, I don't think that they would've let their hair grow.. but rather keep their hair short in protest of doing anything remotely religious.

Not when brushcuts were the alternative
Which all guys sported for years before the fashionable hair growth that so many followed.

But, I must say that some few guys still kept their hair army buzzed short even then. My older brothers for three. But in retrospect, some classmates could have also kept short hair due to their particular denomination.

You'd think that if God was really concerned with how long or short our hair is He'd have told us. The fact that He didn't is perhaps a good indication that it doesn't matter in any way whatsoever.

The two contrasting hair styles back then were more a matter of social distinction, hawks vs doves to put it gently.
How strange that young men and older men were growing their hair and managing to maintain their manliness. As the Biblical Samson did.. the length of his hair was literally his level of physical strength.. he was undefeatable until he let a woman cut his hair. .. essentially breaking his nazarite vow. .. there's a lesson in that somewhere.
