I believe that several of the individuals commenting on the eight-hour roadblock on the Palisadoes strip on New Year's Day are seeking to allocate blame on people who ought not to be blamed. However we wish to look at this matter, and from what angle we may analyse it, we cannot avoid questioning the role of the police.

The commissioner of police and no one else is to be held responsible for the road blockage. The commissioner of police has the primary responsibility of enforcing law and order in Jamaica. Whether there was a proper permit or not for Sandz to have its party is of no relevance to what transpired.

It has to be the police

*** There is a lot of lawlessness here in Jamaica. Consider the following:

- Stop police, and other police associates from running taxis, minibuses, hosting parties, and other activities that conflict with their ability to be impartial.

- Lawyers, associates of persons, accused of crimes should not know or have access to the address of the accuser. This address information is used to track down and retaliate against the accuser.

- Robot taxis and criminals on motorcycles may be in league with each other. If this is the case, this needs to be examined as it could indicate organized crime involving both groups.

- Penalties for rape, murder, should be life in prison without any chance of parole (for 70 years and over and more in prison), once it is ensured that the accused is the real perpetrator of the crime. Many rapists, murderers are repeat offenders. Consider capital punishment to deal with serious offenders as the first option.

- Consider creating maximum security prisons on islands Jamaica has, owns, far away from the mainland. These prisons are for certain crimes like rape, murders, for gang members, for dons etc Consider buying additional lands, buildings, spaces to deal with criminals if permitted on non Jamaican soil as well.
