  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It happens every time

I know that my experiences don't speak for everyone but whenever I stray from listening to only Gregorian Chant and veer toward certain secular music, the same things happen to me: I feel extremely carnal, my depression gets worse, and I start getting insomnia because the song beats are in my head constantly. It takes literally three days (I've timed it) for the effect to subside. I keep hoping that the results aren't the same every time, but they are. I'm really struggling right now with the effects.

There is lots of good secular music out there to choose from. My suggestion is just stay away from the type that puts you in that headspace. :praying:

If It's "bugging you" .... stop doing it ... God don't want you to be depressed.

I can only seem to handle small doses of "ok" secular music but I know my limits. I'm trying to detox from the effects of what I just listened to though :sigh:

What were you listening to to? (If I may ask…)

It was an instrumental version of Peter Gabriel's Digging in the Dirt, and another song of his called "Quiet Steam."
I remember Digging in the Dirt was a song he wrote while undergoing therapy. I’ll look up Quiet Steam…

Peter Gabriel’s music is good but some can be dark and moody.
Oh I know. This is not a recent problem I've had with his music. Even before I was officially a Christian (not confirmation), if I listened to his music for, say, three days in a row, I'd start having crying spells and some of his beats/guitar chords make me feel extremely horny (sorry, it just does this to me, even if others are immune to that effect). He's very brilliant IMHO but I can only handle so much of it before I don't quite feel right and have to take a break. I can't even tell you the last time I listened to any of his music. It could have been years ago. I know I sound a tad dramatic in my description of its effects on me but I am not the least bit kidding.

Well it sounds like you need to walk away from it and find things that uplift you. :praying:

I have the right music, I just drifted a little bit and then realized why I should not have :)

Yeah but I’m saying you can find uplifting secular stuff too. I love Gregorian Chant but definitely could not listen to it 24-7.

I mostly listen to music in the car. :)

I'm not a big music listener otherwise, anymore. I'm weird. I'm sensitive to the sound of most music.

I hate to say this because it looks weird, I guess, but I think I could actually listen to Gregorian Chant 24/7 ^_^^_^

I listen to a lot of Christian talk radio in the car.
