  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Creationville is a term I just made up, 'cause I'm cool like that. Creationville refers to the megalomaniac, over-reaching cabal of creationists that persecute anyway who does not toe the Dogmatic Creationist line, as they have defined it. This is basically the standard YEC doctrine of : A Fallen Adam and Eve made from dust by God pretty much as we are today, a 6,000 year old earth and universe, and a global flood dominating the earth's geological record and much of the current geology.

Non-Christians as well as Christians are accused of working for SATAN if they promote mainstream science that conflicts with their dogma. In Creationville, facts and evidence are meaningless; all that matters is the dogmatic interpretation of scripture as defined by the cabal.

So.. what issues are there in Creationville? Plenty! Here are a few to start with:

1. Special Pleading: In Creationville, Fundamentalist/ Evangelical Christianity is considered the only "true" Christianity, and Christianity is considered the only religion that deserves special treatment by being taught as science. Other religions, are demonic or satanic and promoted by "False Prophets" like Joseph Smith or Muhammad. Also, Creationism is special because it needs no physical evidence to support it, while scientific theories do. Yet, it should still be treated as science, or an alternative to it.

2. The False Dichotomy (or Negative Argument): Since Creationville has no physical evidence to offer in support of creationism, a false dichotomy is setup instead. If any doubt can be cast on scientific theories like evolution or deep time, then creationism must be correct by default. This "stacks the deck" in favor of creationism, of course, and is in essence a negative argument. Negative arguments are are usually wrong, since any position can be supported by a negative argument.

3. Confirmation Bias: In Creationville, any source of information that supports creationism, or claims to disprove scientific theories seen as conflicting with the dogma of Creationville, are treated as always correct. Creationists cherry-pick either through the literature, or even within particular papers or articles for specific information that supports Creationville. Any information that conflicts with Creationville is ignored. Creationists often gleefully cite such sources, as if the identification of someone else who thinks just like them must be indiciative of a position that is correct. Creationists always look for confirming sources, and never look for sources that may conflict with Creationville. Thus, their dogma is always confirmed in their mind. The corrollary to this is that creationists can never find out if they are ever wrong.

These are the top three that I came up with. Any other issues with Creationville are welcome.

I object to the term Creationville. If Science is a "ville" then Creation is no bigger than a hamlet

So yes. Creationhamlet thanks.

And just for the irony....
Hamlet (place) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Historically, when a hamlet became large enough to justify building a church, it was then classified as a village"

CreationCollectionOfMudHuts would also suffice.

Just in: Creationville has just banned the following surgeons from visiting for the reason that they practice evil science based on biology which in turn is based on ToE:

The video shows the villainous scientists practicing their evil evolutionist religion:

Dear sirs

We have heard that the people of creationville do not lie fabricate misrepresent or falsify like them evolutionists do. Could you give us examples of them not lying?

I believe at least some of the creationists testifying at the Kitzmiller trial gave their true names and occupations when testifying.

Oh. You mean about science. Uhh, I'll have to get back to you on that one.

I cannot do that, but I can give you an example of one lying:

Duane Gish's Bullfrog Lie

*Added in edit*
Actually, I can give you an example of a creationville creationist not lying. Dr. Kurt Wise is an example I have often used here of an honest professional creationist. He admits that the evidence supports common descent, but believes that he must reject it because the bible makes no sense to him if he doesn't. Here's a link about him: http://www.secularhumanism.org/library/fi/dawkins_21_4.html

Ooh, fun tiems.

If anyone seeks to criticise the term creationville / creationcave, a totally acceptable defence is demand that they back up every part of their point of view ever (even though the point of this thread is to defend the use of a sweeping generalisation, but let's not let a little thing like integrity get in the way here).

Because as everyone knows, having a chip on your shoulder the size of Ayer's Ro...I mean, being the righteous underdog cruelly hounded by the Evil Atheistic Science Conspiracy totally absolves you from any and all double standards.

Oh well, by creationist logic, Kent Hovind's arrest for tax fraud means that there is a clearly a massive dastardly conspiracy to steal lots of money at every level.

I am going to give you guys one more chance on this issue:

If evolution is false, then creation is true. There is no other alternative.

I know the options, panspermia, aliens, etc. (what else?). But they all need evolution. If evolution is false, they don't exist either.

Negative proof is a logically valid proof. So, what is your alternative except evolution?

I bet you, nothing.

Oh right "Creation MY way, or the highway!" No alternative.

Well guess what? You dont make the rules.

Educated christians have no problem incorporating reality with their faith.

Why do you?

And what bet do you care to make? This is gonna be good, so make it worthwhile.

Good thing then that evolution is true, then. So all the options are still on the table.

So, negative arguments are valid? OK. Here's one for you, Juvie. Show me the Creator that created the earth and life on it. If you cannot, then by default, evolution wins, since there is no alternative. The ball is now in your court, and I can just sit back and relax, since I don't have to do anything more.

You are correct. That means your #2 argument in the OP does not hold.

And we can talk about the "show creator" question somewhere else.
