  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello....does anyone know of any articles or writings on how Adams fall may be related to Newton's 2nd law of thermodynamics? Basically it says that everything is tending to disorder. Given enough billions of centuries....the entire universe will be nothing but dust floating around....no stars no galaxies...no black holes....just dust. it says in the NT that the entire universe is groaning waiting for the adoption of sons. could that have any bearing?
btw his law tells why the arrow of time only goes forward....not backward...that means that time travel into the past is impossible.

Just a thought......any ideas?

Everything tends to disorder unless... someone reorders it. Right?

It doesn't matter how many billions of years pass because everything has a purpose under Heaven.

Everything is running down and going to pieces. ----- Well, that is a rather simple way of describing it. A better definition would be "in a closed system, entropy (a measure of disorder) will on average constantly increase" Since this is a statistical law, two terms are vitally important ---‘closed system’ and ‘on average’.

***”closed system” means that there is no net influx of energy from outside the system. So far as we know the universe as a whole seems to be a closed system with the result that it will eventually wind down and suffer a heat death. However the planet earth is not a closed system. It receives a net influx of energy from the sun and it is this that allows entropy to decrease.

***”on average” means that while entropy in a closed system may be increasing on the whole, there may be localized parts of that system where entropy is actually decreasing. Think of the universe as the system and the earth as such a localized part.

***being statistical laws also means that thermodynamics does not govern the behavior of every single bit of matter at a microscopic level but rather the behavior of collections of matter at the macroscopic level. To say that the class average in the last test was 48% does not mean that every student got that mark or even that the majority of students failed. It is in fact entirely possible that some students bucked the trend and wrote perfect papers.

BTW the Laws of Thermodynamics have absolutely nothing to do with Newton.
