  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi there people
Does other people have the same problem we do in Australia, in that when you criticise Islam the "racism card" gets played & your accused of been a racist ! Even though you make it quite clear that your only against Islam's doctrine & theology, and that you do not in any circumstance hate Arabs !
If so how do you combat such ?

Which doctrine and theology in particular?

I am kinda racist, by the way, and there's nothing worse than people who are, but try to hide behind justifications.

The whole Islam ideology in general I'am against ! & How can you be a Christian & be a racist ? Also if you are applying that I'm a racist because I appose Islam, that is like saying that people who oppose Christianity, Buddhism, or Hinduism are racist, which is totally absurd to say the least.

What about it "in general"? When you can't make any specific explanations, yeah, it kinda looks like a justification for racism. Sorry. And sure I can be a Christian and a racist. I try my hardest to overcome it and treat everyone equally, but in my heart I know I'm racist.

I am not sure if being a racist is the same as being hostile towards strangers.
"Främlingsfientlig" is what it says, Enemy towards all strangers regardless of religion, skincolour, and so on.
The people of Sodom suffered from this illness, it could be more widespread than realized.
It is natural that newcomers will have a lot of baggage with them,
It may bottom in, the fear of the unknown.

Obviously Islam is not a race, but even if it was, the Christian Bible shows many instances of race-preference, e.g. "The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies. This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith ..." Titus 1:12,13

In Southern California.. Muslims are generally accepted... so their Mosques are around nearby and they welcome inquirers as well. Muslims themselves in my personal experience are not racist.. Belal..the first Muezzin was a liberated slave.

Using the racism card is a sleazy and cheap-shot method of silencing/marginalizing/discrediting the person, rather than addressing their actual criticisms. It's pretty effective too, and is used in a wide variety of topics.

Of course, the flip side to it is often people do say or express racist things and then try to deflect it when someone calls them out on it by screaming "race card" or whatever.

Amazing....

Amazing what? I've had people tell me that they know Jews control the banks and conspire to take over the world and when I say that's a pretty old, tired antisemitic thing to believe I get "race card!" nonsense thrown my way. There are times when calling someone out on a racist view is the acceptable answer.

My point went to the OP - Being called a racist for criticizing Islamic doctrines and theology, is the same as being called a racist for criticizing Obama's domestic or foreign policies. It's a sleazy and cheap shot. Let's stick with the OP topic.

This is largely the case in Australia, at least, it is with the classes with the southern cross stickers and tattoos. Now, sure, valid criticism is always valid, but being a racist and trying to dress your racism up as valid criticism is pretty vile behaviour.

Don't believe me? Google "Cronulla Beach riots" and tell me the people involved looked like they were trying to open a constructive dialog?

Most of the people involved in the so called "Reclaim Australia" rallies, which I rather suspect are OP's inspiration, wouldn't have the first clue about any specifics of Islamic doctrine or theology.

It is to the OP topic in my opinion, I'm sorry if you disagree with me on it. The person said they criticize Islam "in general". We can't determine if it's racist or not without hearing the criticisms. It's just the way things work. I can't give someone a free pass if they aren't saying what they don't like.

Yes, criticizing Obama's policies isn't racist but I've seen plenty of racist criticisms on Obama. These things exist.

Also, many people see racism in just about everything. It's almost like a default value for them whenever they encounter anything they disagree with. And if they can't find any blatant racism, the get really creative and make it about racism. It's a win-win every time for them!

There are people like that in every group. They would rather silence an argument rather than address it. "Why do you hate America?" "Why do you hate black people?" all that kind of stuff. Yeah, it's pretty sad.

So, insofar as the OP's concerns, (criticizing Islamic doctrine and theology being dismissed out of hand as being racist), we're in complete agreement. Good grief! That was like pulling teeth!
