I am not calling you closed minded bigot, all of us have different point of views and opinions. Religion has very little to do with the conflict, Jews, Muslims, Christians have also lived side by side before Israel was created, I was reading a news where Lebanese Jew have said Yasser Arafat have been good to them, she said once a Fatah soldier who was in charge of food parcel distribution to Wadi residents was urged by a Shia Muslim girl to give food to Muslims first, Christians 2nd and Jews last, the soldier replied: "we will give first to the Jews, then the Christians, then the Muslims".

I wish a time like the Golden Age of Islam or better would come again, where Jews, Muslims, Christian lived well and the nation flourished. Where technology marveled and great achievements were made. Where it was not just about conquering as much land as possible but developing a nation and its people no matter what religion ethically, economically and trying to make great achievements.

It's already there- in the United States! Where democracy, law and order, and respect for all races and religions supersedes any religious considerations- nobody is allowed to murder or otherwise harm or treat unequally anyone just because they are of a different religion, ethnic class, gender, race, sexual orientation, etc. etc.

Canada is even better- virtually nobody is allowed to carry guns, and they have a true multiple-party political party system where you don't have to be a multi-billionaire to become Prime Minister.

You religion states not to have a Jew or Christian even as a close friend. It establishes walls between you and 'non-believers'.

The Koran is full of verses that are derogatory - aimed principally at the Jews, but also some at Christians as well.

The simple truth is that what counts as "true Islam" is contested amongst Muslims. And we have those who condone terror, and we have those who don't.

And those that do condone it have a long history of interpretation to support them.

No different than any other religion.

Everyone has an opinion. Some slightly different. Some miles apart.

Put a group of people together and complete unity becomes more unachievable as you add members.

Now extrapolate this to a population of over 1 billion people. No agreement? No surprise.

I can't even get my 5 other team members to agree with me on matters related to the conduct of our group as outlined by our company. You expect over 1 billion people to agree on something as broad as their world views and religious views? Fantasy my dear friend. Fantasy...

By that argument we can't use terms such as "Moslem" or "Christian" because they would essentially become undefinable.

Forturnately the world doesn't work like that.

If I proclaim that the Bible was written 15 years ago in Sumatra by a giant chicken, this wouldn't make it "Chrisitan belief"

Words have meaning.

Islam has a meaning.

Islam has a broad set of beliefs that are encompassed by the term "Islam"

In that broad set of beliefs are beliefs on using violence to spread the faith.

And, of using violence against those that speak out against Islam.

I seriously wonder what we could actually accomplish if we were to take all of this basically meaningless discussion about whatever and put it toward something productive like helping the homeless or trying to eliminate poverty.

You're right. Sigh.

Are you assuming people don't do this too?

However I find issues of men's souls equally important

You know, I almost put this as what I believed would be the standard reply.
I was going to say you posting your item made it ironic.
Read what I said and reflect upon it.
Again with the underlying assumptions!

I don't care what you have to say on it either way.
Odd place to be then? Do you have a blog site where I can just go read your opinions without interacting? I'd really prefer that then meaningless discussions.

Interfaith dialogue can take a few routes.

There are those who only wish to have strife and conflict. These people are the enemies of peace. They do not wish for the world to get better, to attempt less war, to attempt less suffering through religious conflict. They merely care about their side being better or winning.

There are also those who wish to find common ground. To have peaceful discussions where each side can learn and understand better. They do what those who wish to create conflict hate; they talk. Talk is the great enemy of conflict. When people become humanized, it is harder to harm them. The conflict minded people wish to reduce the other side into beings that are less than human, that move with a single mind and are only there to fight.

It is up to each of us to decide which side we wish to be on.
