Islam and Christianity - are they really the same religion?

No. As I said, Christianity says that Jesus is God, and Islam passionately denies this.
If you don't understand the ambiguity then your opinion about Christianity vs Islam on the nature of Isa/Jesus has no value.

Are homo sapiens and pan troglodytes made the same species by their similarities? Or is the difference too ambiguous to make a determination?

How is your question relevant to the issue of Christians ignoring facts that don't suit their beliefs?

Pan Troglodytes shares about 97% of its DNA with homo sapiens. Yet it's certainly a false statement to say that they are really the same species.

Christianity shares a lot less with Islam, particularly the specific beliefs that each respectively insists are absolutely defining and in total opposition to the other.

If anyone is ignoring facts that don't suit their beliefs, it's you.

So now you're conflating biology with religion to defend Christianity?

If anyone is ignoring facts that don't suit their beliefs, it's you.
What facts do you think that I'm ignoring? The point you is that can't cope with the ambiguity which exposes the Christian straw man relating to Allah having no biological son.

Let's use something other than biology, then.

You consider both Christianity and Islam to be fiction, don't you? Make believe? Imagination?

So let's look at two examples of imagination.

Star Trek and Star Wars.

A lot of similarity between them: Space ships, aliens, energy weapons.

Let's throw another one in there: Valerian. A lot of people say that Valerian is the precursor to both of them and that both of them have elements that derive from Valerian.

Are they all the same story?

You clearly have no clue. You accuse me of ignoring the facts, but you have nothing with which to support your accusation. The point remains that the argument about Allah not having no biological son is a straw man based on ambiguity.

I'll admit I don't know what that sentence means.

I know what "strawman" means. Who are you saying has stood that strawman up? Christians or Muslims?

What it means is that you should understand the nature of the ambiguity before you argue the point. The ambiguity is that "God" can refer to Allah and to Elohim. Saying that Allah has to biological son is not the same as saying that Elohim has to biological son. The Bible talks about ben Elohim (sons of God) in Genesis, so it's reasonable to think that Elohim can have children.

In this thread it's been a Christian argument, but Muslims could have used it as well.
