  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey everybody, I've never posted here before, but I've got a question that hopefully can be answered here. And I'll probably have more questions as time goes on.

Anyway, I've been doing a little research on a subject that's trying to twist Christianity to meet their ends, and in debunking this, I've run into a place where Isaiah Chapter 11 is referenced.

Could someone please explain to me what exactly is being described by Isaiah here? Is this something to do with Heaven, Armageddon, etc?

Thanks.

Isaiah 11 from Isaiah's viewpoint, concerns the coming Messiah and the age of the Messiah. Isaiah described the Messiah as a "shoot" and "branch" coming from the line of David (Jesse was David's father). Isaiah was referring to the promises in the Davidic covenant made with King David in 2 Samuel 7.

11:1-5 is a description of the Messiah, while 11:6-9 is a description of the Messianic age or kingdom. Exactly what is and when is the Messianic age depends on what Christian tradition and which method of interpretation you adhere. For me, a dispensationalist, I understand this reference to be to the Millennial kingdom which follows Jesus' return to earth. Other Christians have a different understanding, and may take it symbolically.

In Isaiah 11:10 the phrase In that day is an eschatological phrase - referring to The Day of the Lord. The Day of the Lord - in my view - precedes the Messianic kingdom on earth. The description is that the Messiah will be a rallying point for the believers among the nations on the Day of the Lord, as well as for the believing Jews scattered throughout the world.
