Isaac the Syrian

Hello OOs,
I am wondering how Isaac of Syria is thought of in the Oriental Orthodox Church. Is he Nestorian? Is he a saint?
Personally I find him refreshing and wise.

Dear Climbinout,

While St. Isaac may have not been Nestorian in Christology, research certainly shows that he belonged to the Nestorian Church, the Assyrian Church.

However, St. Isaac has received from both OO's and EO's such love to his writings and his wisdom and his depth that one cannot refrain the word "St." from Isaac. You will read that both our churches claim him to belong to our's, but in all fairness, the truth tends to show that he was a practicing bishop of the Nestorian Church in Iraq.

Isaac of Nineveh was great saint, he was a bishop of Nestorian church of Ninevah

Many Scholars thought he was Syriac Orthodox ,

He wrote many writings on Monasticism and Monastic life.....

I can tell you that the Eastern Orthodox see him as a Saint. My Priest loved my 'choice' in a Patron.

He transfered the Spirtuality of the Eastern Church to the west ...
