I'm not really following the conversation, you guys just lost me somewhere. I always thought Zion was the hill Jerusalem sat on. In Scripture it's common to describe going to Jerusalem as going up to Jerusalem, because cities tended to be built on a hill, it's more defensible. Israel doesn't have the big 14ks like the Rockies but mountains there, if memory serves, can be about 5k, I think. Apparently when Jesus went to Jerusalem for the Holy Convocations he stayed in Bethany with Lazarus and his sisters. It sat on the Mount of Olives and created a valley, the Kidron Valley, between Zion and the Mount of Olives. That valley was the place where I believe Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount and where Ezra read the Law after Nehemiah finished the walls after the Babylonian exile.

By the way, I always thought the city of David was Bethlehem.
