Hello, ummm
maybe you have already heared some people talking about this, but is tweezing eyebrows a sin, is feeling insecure without having nice tweezed eyebrows idolatry? (keep in mind that i struggle with ocd and scrupulosity so my brain tends to obsess about small things if they are sin)

If...
  • God forms us in the womb. Isaiah 44:24
  • We are made in God's image. Genesis 1:27
  • God knows every hair on your head. Matthew 10:30
...then our eyebrows are as God intended them to be. There is no need for plucking.

Is it a sin to groom your body? No.

My personal opinion on hair plucking: I do not think it is necessary for women to pluck their eyebrows whatsoever. I'm a male and I can tell you that I very much prefer a woman having natural eyebrows—not plucked eyebrows, not fake eyebrows.

Welcom to CF. No it is not unless you are underage and your parents set an age limit rule and you broke that rule. The sin would be disobeying your parents. Blessings

I don't know that it is a sin to cut hair etc..

For example - "The shaving of the head in connection with a vow is following the custom of the Nazirite vow (Numbers 6:2-21)"

Christ's beard was plucked - but this was not in anyway causing Christ to sin or be a sinner.

God cares about how your heart looks to Him >

"rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God." (1 Peter 3:4)

So, we need to pay attention to what God cares about.

(keep in mind that i struggle with ocd and scrupulosity so my brain tends to obsess about small things if they are sin)
God's word says for all of us to pay attention to pleasing God; this is for all of us, not only for you! :) So, this is a spiritual matter, not only a physical brain thing. All of us need how God is able to heal and correct our spiritual minds so our minds obey God; this is a Bible basic of all which our Heavenly Father does in us. So, first of all, I would say, simply stop and pray and trust God to do this . . . while you also pray for all of us to do this! :)

Do not allow this world to get you isolated by yourself with worrying about what you look like. Our attention belongs with God and how He loves us and shares with us in His peace.

So, all of us need to pray and trust God with our attention and memory so our minds stay with Jesus; and understand that this world has been telling us and teaching us things in order to distract us from God.

So, among other things, read and feed on God's word and discover where God brings your attention.

Among other scriptures we have >

"Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth." (Colossians 3:2)

Therefore, then, what is the real reason why you would even think of trying to alter how God made your eyebrows? Who would have brought your attention to that?? This world has women worrying about how they look to men who don't even love them!! Well, I will offer > if a man knows how to love, he is aware that Jesus wants us to love any and all women; and a maturing Christian man knows better than to evaluate a woman by what she looks like. So, why would you try to please worldly men who do not know how to love? I say this, just in case this has something to do with your reasoning and what you have been feeling.

What matters is that you be kind to people. And being kind includes being a good example to help other women not to be fooled by people who don't even love them. You can show other women, how you are not being fooled by the advertising and other stuff which has women trying to please people who don't know how to love. And do this to honor God >

"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." (Romans 12:2)

There are men who are Jesus people; so they love you; we do not want you to be tricked into worrying about stuff like that! :)

idolatry, in Judaism and Christianity, the worship of someone or something other than God as though it were God.

I doubt you worship your eyebrows.

I think what is and is not idolatry get's way overblown .... worship ... idolatry is about giving reverence to something or someone as though it were God.

No.

But if you struggle with OCD and scrupulosity, you might want to avoid tweezing your eyebrows anyway.

I know many will say no as people nowadays do not see vanity as a sin but in fact it is one of the worst of sins. Vanity and lusts leads us away from GOD. Scripture lets us know about these two sins.

People should be more concerned with what is on the inside than the outside, this is why in scripture it speaks of white-washed tombs and cups on the outside being clean.

Many Christians and non-Christians are more concerned with outward appearances than the people themselves. Such a shame.

Remember you are a child of GOD. Called by GOD.

Peace be to all those in the Body of Christ

no, it is not a sin, but on a personal beauty note, I was having my eyebrows threaded and some parts of them have not grown back.
Nothing wrong with tidying them up but don't have too much taken out as they may not grow back. I think the trend now is to have more eyebrows. LOL.

But no, it isn't a sin!

take care!

I'd put eyebrow tweezing more in the category of personal health and hygiene than a moral category. I dare say that to tweeze one's eyebrows or not is up to the conscience of the individual.

I understand your concern(I too have ocd) but don't worry plucking your eyebrows is not a sin. If I didn't I would have a unibrow and a thin mustache. Not good for a women like myself to look manly don't you think? It's personal hygiene. Like getting a haircut or clipping our fingernails. It's not a sin to clip your nails and if you don't clip your toenails you'll risk getting toe infection. Not saying that to scare you but to prove a point. I know with ocd we tend to overly examine everything but don't. If anything I believe God wants us to take care of our bodies. Plucking your eyebrows is NOT the same as getting cosmic plastic surgery or a tattoo. Even if you did those things he would still love you the same. Don't listen to the people who made human rules and restrictions that the Bible never even said was a sin, like people who think make-up is a sin when it's not. Even women in the bible practice grooming. Queen ester was beautified along with her fellow maidens. Mary who poured her expensive purfume onto Jesus' feet to anoint him was praised and blessed by Jesus. Don't over think it. It is not a sin.

Further to this point, God even commanded in the Old Testament for the males to be circumcised. If God commanded this (involving clipping off excess skin of males) to identify and take care of His people, I think it gives even more indication that things like clipping of toenails or removal of excess hair (or eyebrows) as part of personal hygiene is a relatively minor matter.
