  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

im not sure I understand that first sentence.. but I can tell you touching yourself is most def a sin. First question you should ask if anything is a sin is WWJD? if you feel he wouldnt have any prob with the thing then do it, then after you've done it, ask yourself again, Would Jesus Have Done That? Do you feel peace? or do you feel conviction and depression? I think it's pretty obvious but to more elaborate look at this

Jesus said (i'm paraphrasing)"I tell you, if you even look upon another in lust you have commited adultery with them in your heart" Okay so, if your a guy, and you touch, I bet there's gonna be some girl poping in your mind, ergo Adultery. Ergo sin.

Is that enough proof? If you don't feel conviction from doing that then.. I'll pray for you! :)

It is better for your seed to land in the belly of a harlot than on the ground-heard it somewhere. Does that mean anything?
that sounds like a bad paraphrase of Onan in Genesis 38:9, who spilt his seed on the ground rather than impregnate and fulfill his duty to his dead brother, which God put him to death for.

This quote doesn't represent the whole doctrine of masturbation though, and shouldn't be used like that.

anything outside of faith in God is sin. If our conscience is telling us to stop masturbating so you will have more time to help orphans and widows or other good works, than you need to follow your conscience. Masturbation also seems to be a selfish pleasure for the most part. Christians should seek to serve others and abound in good works. The harvest is plentiful, the laborers are few, Jesus came to seek and save the lost, we should help.

I dont think the answer is a simple yes or no. I think its circumstantial although it sounds like more often it is in fact sinful maybe not always.
I also believe whats best for one person is not neccessarily whats best for another - by best I mean what God desires.
Heres a great article on it I recommend reading it and coming to your own conclusions on the topic, hope you can find your answers:

I dont believe touching yourself is a sin,
however like everything else in our lives
one can take it to the extremes.

There's a time and a place, (not in public).
Your body is a gift from God (my belief, maybe Im wrong, again my belief and my belief only), yours to touch, and enjoy, nothing wrong with it at all.

The WWJD concept is sin itself. It enslaves people and makes them miserable. It's only fit for the few who are able to fool themselves well enough to believe that they actually live up to it.

It is directly contrary to the Gospel, which is about what Jesus has already done, not about us striving to copy his actions.

Just had to get that out, sorry.

If masturbation doesn't give you any particular trouble, I see no reason why you shouldn't do it.

Paul writing to the church at Corinth said that it is better to marry than to burn. He was recognising that not every man could be celibate as he was. He was suggestion that marriage was the answer to the sexual desire, if such desire could not be controlled.

It would be better for society as a whole, if young men were to marry, rather than the alternative which is so prevalent these days.

The idea is to be "Christ Like" I could look up a few verses but that's pretty much the message of the NT! To carry our cross! To serve Jesus.. you could say WJWWMTD but that would be longer ... (What Jesus Would Want Me To Do).. but really mean the same thing.. it's not about following yourself but following him..and your exactly right about it enslaving people AMEN! I am now a slave of Christ! oooo theres this one verse I need to memorize.. says something like Jesus led the captivity captive err no.. i'll have to look it up. anyway you get the point tho.

I get the point, and it sounds all good, but it's counterproductive. I know more than one person who had to simply throw away their WWJD bracelet because of the immense guilt and constant condemnation they felt. It's such a tiny bracelet, but it has the power of a ten-pound chain.

"WWJD" takes people's eyes OFF Jesus and makes them look at themselves instead, that's why it's so detrimental. Just like Peter defied even the law of gravity by looking at Christ, we are to do the same. Peter didn't ask "WWJD" but rather What IS Jesus DOING!

You don't become Christlike by trying to force your flesh to do something you imagine Jesus would've done. You're not Jesus, and the only way to become more like him is to look at him.

Him him him him him him him him him him him!

It is never mentioned in the Bible.

Ask why not so much as what...

Why do people touch?
Lust and self-control are personal and are when the sin enters the picture. If You are lusting after someone other than your spouse then it is adultery and sin. If it "owns you" then it is sin. Of course, we are all owned by something, Soap operas, shopping, coffee, chocolate, ice cream before bed, and on and on I could go.

Is it ever ok? Hmmm During foreplay in a marital bed? I would say yes. How about if the husband has low sperm count and they use it to collect enough to increase the odds of pregnancy? I would say that is ok as well.

Using the wasted seed issue also fails....I don't see God condemning us for something out of our control...nocturnal emmissions (wasted seed).

Of course, this is all just my opinion.

From what I have been taught it is a sin...Juanita Bynam has a book called "no more sheets" that has a whole chapter dedicated to Masturbation. In that chapter she mentioned that your mind elevates spiritually into some negative places. In other words when you act out in Masturbation you entertain unclean spirits, that us single people have to be mindful of and continue to ask God to be "Madewhole".

Don't be dismade, it takes one day at a time to become pure and holy.

That's perhaps the funniest thing I've read all day.

EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION:
It is certainly true God will make us whole. Even as married people we need to focus on Christ for our fullfilment and not our spouse. I have found that when this happens my marriage becomes a much better thing. What I find funny is the comment by Bynam. I laugh because otherwise I would cry. That beleif not only has no biblical basis but it also strikes me as rather, well, new age-ish.

Thats ok, my sister. We're here to learn and grow together.

I hope I didn't come across too harshly, it wasn't my intent.

I do a lot of reading of books written by all kinds of authors. However, the key is to bring what they say to light under the Bible. It is our standard.

Sometimes, I do forget to do that, but I am getting better as He continues to work on/in me.

God Bless and welcome to to the forums.

Jay
