Thank you for the clarification, but you assume much and actually state little of substance.

"Sex with yourself?" I'll not play the semantics game, thank you.

Yes, those passages are all well and good, but the fact remains that what qualifies as sexual immorality is clarified in numerous passages, and not once is masturbation mentioned. That the writers would take the time to speak about and condemn sex with animals but just happen to leave out an activity as immensely common as masturbation seems more than a mere oversight to me.

I agree that if masturbation causes a particular Christian to stumble, it is a sin for them to participate in it, but this is true of anything, even activities normally considered good and moral. I would say that for many of those who struggle with masturbation addiction, the issue is not actually with masturbation itself, but with a deeper and more general issue. To insert my views on what that issue might be, exactly, would perhaps be overstepping my bounds, so I'll leave it at that.

There is quite a difference between trying to falsely justify that which is known to be wrong and defending that which is genuinely believed not to be wrong. You state that the case for it being an absolute sin is "incredibly steep," but I see nothing that directly condemns or even insinuates the condemnation of masturbation. That said, however, I do not believe this to be an especially important issue of debate either way (one of interest due to its controversy, certainly, but not truly important), nor do I think it meaningful whether or not one decides to touch. As I've said, I don't believe masturbation to be innately good or evil; it just is.

What if you try not to, but fail sometimes and ask forgivness and keep trying not to. Will you be forgiven?

The question: Is masturbation a sin?

Answer: Not in itself. Masturbation is a process by which we can care for our bodies.

We should be careful though of the things we think of while doing so.

It is good to pursue holiness in every aspect of our life.

If you have any doubts or questions, my advice is to go to God as a son or daughter to their Father, and ask Him with all humility and respect, and He can help you with this issue.

As for me, I will take the liberty of praying for all of you myself here:

Dear God, I humbly seek You with the utmost respect for Your person on behalf of the people who are bound by doubt or anything which would cause them pain on the issue of masturbation. I ask for them Your guidance, and I pray for their holiness. Thank You Lord, Amen.

No. There is no getting around it. It is all sin.
Get over it and do something productive with your time. Please God in all you do. You were made not for yourself but for Him.

Okay, I still struggle with the fact if touching yourself is a sin or not. People giving verses about lust and sexual desire are not looking at it from a point of normal body function. If you can do it without lusting is it a sin? God knows our hearts. A friend of mine did tell me though that he has never had to question if he was doing something right in God's eyes. I still struggle every morning when I wake up if I can do it or not, if it is a sin in my Father's eyes. Paul said he had to die daily to his flesh. In Lamantations God's Word says His mercies are new every morning. I am going with this: if the ice looks too thin to skate on, I'm staying on the Solid Ground. I am starting to believe it is wrong. I am relying on what The Holy Spirit is telling me, not anyone on this board or any "experts" on the matter. I have a hard time discerning what the Holy Spirit says sometimes. So if I am focused on what is right or wrong in God's eyes, my eyes aren't focused on Him, but focused on the grey area. Do I try to live for Him? Yes! Do I fail almost daily? Yes! Do I believe that Christ died for my past, present, and future sins? Yes! But Hebrews 10:26 makes me want to live a life free from questionable sin: (New Century Version from BibleGateway.com) "26 If we decide to go on sinning after we have learned the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins." It is about my repentant heart and desire to be clean in God's eyes, my desire to never turn from Him that keeps me wanting to remain clean and sin free before Him.

Its not a sin. Seriously, its hard enough just waiting till marriage, and constantly fighting with yourself over it will only cause sexual dysfuntion in the future. Also, if thinking something in your head is the same as doing then there's no helping sin, so you might as well just do what you can to get by and live as good and christlike life as possible and remember no one is perfect

Get a job, or another hobby.
That IS a hobby!

Sorry, but that is just a loser mentality talking! The world has gotten to you. It's not impossible to be pure. God is calling us to that, and He is offering us His help. Spurn His help and fail. Lean on Him and live---victoriously! Receive what He has planned for you joyfully, and without regret.

Yea... um, no.

YOU try being a 12 year old boy with all kinds of crazy things going on in your head and body and the only way to keep the NONSTOP thoughts about girls from driving you insane is "righty". Then having someone shame you into thinking its wrong, so you beat yourself up (not literally) for being evil through your teenage years which are hard enough as it is. That kind of thing can carry over into intimacy with another in the future, leading to the forementioned sexual dysfuntion and repression (ie nudity = sexuality)

Its kept me from jumping into bed with someone on more than one occasion. Its not sin. If so then God can understand and forgive. Either way I don't lose sleep over it/

It is a counterfeit, yet the same sin as fornication. The sin originates in the mind, so if you are replacing fornication with masturbation, then it is a mere transfer--same sin, which is lust in action. God considers lust the same as the act you are imagining.

You should lose sleep over it, mate. It is being accounted to you as sin by God.

I don't mean to ruffle any feathers here, it's just my old fashioned opinion, but I can't believe this topic was started in a mixed company forum!

Hey, I can't believe the question had to be asked!

I'm not sure if i should laugh or cry after reading this?

Technically, what is mentioned about this kind of thing in scripture is that you will be unclean till the sun goes down. This had more of an impact on priest and could cost them a day of service if they had an erotic dream or something like that, before an event.

*why did i read this?*

Well, women touch too, so it's not as if it's really gender-specific.
