  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Is this the right place?

Hi, I'm Nathan.
I'm a husband, father, musician, nerd, and wanna-be inventor.
I was raised a Christian and made my faith my own in high school.

I'm looking for meaningful but civil discussion with other Christians about things that have me stumped. There's a long list of things that stump me, but the the items near the top are:
- Why are so many Christians saying/doing X when it looks to me like the Bible says the opposite? What am I missing?
- I was taught young-earth creationism growing up, but have since learned about Christians that believe God + evolution were both at work in our origins. Mind blown. Lots of questions.
- What's the right way to raise kids in the age of phones?

I know some of those get pretty controversial, but I'm really not here to pick any fights. I'm looking for diversity of thought from different perspectives. Am I in the right place?

Hello & welcome.

  1. We are each at different places when we get Saved (if Saved). God doesn't teach everyone the same lessons in the same order, but we will all end up aligned with Jesus as we seek Him [1 John 3:2].
  2. From where I sit, Old-Earth Creation (most importantly) does not allow for Original Sin. Without OS, we do not need a Savior.
  3. The issue isn't "raising kids in the age of [smart] phones." It is about raising your kids according to their particular needs. That calls for wisdom.

Welcome.....
I guess I am a young earth to a greater degree....but I am still trying to figure.... How the aliens landed in the garden of Eden and convinced (ishshâh) Eve to eat the fruit and why Adam didn't see the space ship land...........

Just kidding about the aliens....

When it comes to kids ...trust your instincts and your heart.... nobody knows your kids like you do...and my advise may not be applicable. My kids never watched cartoons (albeit, some select Disney movies) nor did they play video games....reading & crafts were strongly encouraged. Phones were on a as needed basis until a specified age after which limitations (rules) were set with consequences if violated....which they never did.

My humble answers:
Why are so many Christians saying/doing X when it looks to me like the Bible says the opposite? What am I missing?
We are still in the flesh. Not everyone who claims to be a Christian actually lives doing the "will of the Father". Be it by bad teaching, hypocrisy or ignorance, those with discernment should lead by example so that those on the wide road of destruction can get back on the narrow road that leads to life.
- I was taught young-earth creationism growing up, but have since learned about Christians that believe God + evolution were both at work in our origins. Mind blown. Lots of questions.
Old earth theory does not mean you have to subscribe to evolution. There is a third view.
- What's the right way to raise kids in the age of phones?
They can only communicate with a parent. Then slowly introduce other family, then friends. By the time they are 18 full use can be granted.

Welcome to CF. Thankful you are here!!!! Sounds like you are in a good place for good discussion.

Wannabe inventor? One day I dream of something that will fly me my keys/phone, whatever I lose, wherever they are at.
