Is this okay or do you consider it lying?

1) You don't have to lie. It is not ethical for the guy to ask you to lie.

2) I agree with Rasplundjr: as long as it is a legally purchased copy, they don't care where it is installed and they give you tech support without any problems. He can call himself, or you or any neighbor, friend or relative can call for him.

Thank you for your feedback everyone. He said after I refused to call and the argument started that they just didn't want me to have to go into a lengthy explanation of who was getting it and why.

He called himself and found out that in this version he was able to do what he was doing by giving it to the girl with no problem but it was not the case with a previous version.

Hello,

When speaking to company on behalf of a fellow church member, is it okay to say that person is our mother or daughter or sister or brother?

I was asked me to call a software company about an issue with software that we purchased for a little girl in our church, and tell them them that we ordered their software for our daughter, in case they might question why her network or ip address is different than our home's, since we also use the same software on our home computers.

I felt it was lying and refused.

I was told "she is your daughter in the Lord". I don't feel comfortable to call a company on behalf of someone else (to help that person with whatever issue) and say they are my brother/sister/mother/father ....just because "that person is my mother/sister/brother/father" in the Lord. I feel it is wrong.

Please share your opinion.

You did well because you listened to the Holy Spirit's warning. Both lying AND deception are wrong, and using that "Daughter of the Lord" angle to make a company believe you are the primary parent or caregiver was deceptive.

That being said, here's a true, personal story ...

One day I woke up from an evening nap and the Holy Spirit told me "Let's go for a drive." He led me out to my truck and as I started down my road. I saw a truck pass by the end of my street, and the Spirit said "Follow that truck" I thought it was crazy to be stalking a random vehicle, but I obeyed God's voice. The truck pulled over, and two black men began leaning out the right window, saying things to a black woman walking on the sidewalk with a bag of groceries in her hand. She kept trying to turn her head and ignore them, but they kept following her, driving real slow next to the curb. Suddenly, they looked up and saw me in the rear view mirror, and they took off. But, God still told me "Follow them" so I did, again. When they noticed me still following them, they pulled over, parked on the curb, got out. Without any hesitation, I got out and stood by my car. They began walking towards me aggressively, but the Power and Peace of God came over me and I stood there UTTERLY FEARLESS. The closer they got, the more afraid they became, until they stopped 10ft from my face. They aksed "Are you a cop?" I was stuck!....if I said "Yes" I'd be lying, but if I said "No", they'd whoop my butt. These were 2 full-grown men and I was only 26. I was just starting to pray in my head, when the Holy Ghost said "Tell them you are tonight" so I said "I am tonight." They instantly stepped back, put their hands in the air and said "Whoah!!..we don't want any trouble." I just stood there and they walked back to their car and took off, but for a 3rd time but God said "Keep following them" so I did until they pulled over a 3rd time. This time, they were completely perpelxed, so I sat in my car and they right up and God said "Open the door (let them sit down)" so I did, letting them both get in the right side of my truck and sit down on the front bench. They were like "Soooo...who are you? What...?? " They were speechless but wanted to know what was going on, etc, and I proceeded to tell them about God's Spirit waking me up from a nap the reality of Jesus Christ. Turns out, they were both Muslims, and I eventually shared the whole Gospel of Jesus with both men. When they realized I was a Christian, the man on the far right said "Aaaahhhh He's just a crazy Christian" and got out and walked away. But the other man, sitting next to me, had his eyes fixated, believing everything. He became a Believer in Jesus Christ that night.

I think about that night sometimes ... was I lying? I say No, #1 because the Holy Spirit told me to say it, and #2 because that night, I was LITERALLY policing my neighborhood in God's authority.

I am so happy that at least one person was saved! I am not perfect but I am trying to walk in truth best I can and for me it was lying.

Some people have said lying is okay if you will save someone's life, but I don't believe that to be true either. I tend to believe that God can provide a way out to do so but speaking without lying

The only real issue here is that you were asked by someone from your church to lie, and when you refused, you were pressured to lie anyway. When you have an issue with a fellow Christian, you should go to them and try to work it out. If that doesn't work, then you go to them again, along with a Brother or Sister in Christ. The next step is take it up with your Pastor. No one should encourage you to sin.

It is wrong because it is deceptive. It is understood what meaning the company would take by using the word daughter, and that is the purpose of using the word, to get the company to think she is your real daughter. Since that is deceptive, tell the truth instead, that you purchased this for a girl in your church and entrust the outcome to the Lord. This way not only are you telling the truth, but you may also have the occasion for testimony for the Lord! I am sure that this is part of what the evil one intended, to cut off the possibility of a testimony for the Lord. God bless!
