  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is this offensive...?

I have some Jewish heritage on my Mom's side of the family, I am Catholic though regardless of this hertiage. Still, I want to honor the Jewish part of my heritage. Would it be offensive for me to do so, such as by celebrating Jewish holidays and both Christian ones, and perhaps even wearing a Star of David? All of my heritages mean alot to me and I am quite a mix honestly, but I want to honor them all and I feel that just because we are Christian doesn't mean we have to abandon all of the old ways. St. Paul speaks about this in Colossians. Anyway, would it be?

It would not be offensive in anyway shape or form, to observe your Jewish heritage.

Remember, Jesus was a Jew and kept the Jewish observances, just as his mother, our Blessed Mother did.

I knew several Jews who converted to Catholicism, after exploring other Christian denominations. They said the Catholic Church not only made them feel welcome in keeping their heritage, but there was many things they saw in the liturgy that were recognizably Jewish in origin.

I wear a necklace with a cross, a star of david, a cresent moon and a Buddhist wheel on it.

and I celebrate any holiday that will
1) give me an exuse to drink
and
2) has any possiblity of getting me out of work.

So

I'm not particularly bothered by any of this.

Now leave me alone and let me continue my celebration of Salvation Army week.

As long as your strong in your faith and wont be lead astray... go for it

I am very strong in my faith but that doesn't mean by faith has to abandon the traditions of my ancestors. If you ask me. St. Paul spoke of not having to abandon your Jewish traditons in order to be a follower of the New Law but at the same time, not having to follow the Jewish traditions either, I guess it is a choice that is written on indiviuals hearts and can be used for the glory of God.
