• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Is this OCD?

1. You feel that whenever you go to Heaven or Hell, it doesn't matter anymore.
2. When intrusive thoughts come bothering you, you don't cancel them anymore because you felt that you have actually done it several times already or that you feel tired of doing the compulsions.
3. You feel that God has completely given up on you.
4. You don't feel like reading the Bible.
5. THat you yourself deliberately think the thoughts in your head and place a canceling word, and when you haven't placed a caneling word, you just shrug it off.

Is this still OCD or is this a major spiritual problem, or is it depression???

#3 can easily be a spiritual attack. Enemey likes to mess with our feelings and make us believe we arent wanted by God.

#4 I get this alot, i prayed about it. When i get spikes i just get turned off...its very depressing.

#5 you should be shrugging it off, kind of like exposure and response. Keep shrugging it off :)

#2 this happens when we get so tired of our OCD so im gonna say its related to the OCD..Sometimes we get so tired that it dont phase us for a short period of time.

#1 i cant seem to relate at this time but i wouldnt worry too much about it. When we go to heaven it wont matter anymore. Things will be different :)

Dont look at these things as spiritual problems, youre sick, you have an illness:( Its so easy for us to write these things off as "spiritual problems" since everything is spiritual oriented.

doesnt mean God wont use this illness to build us up spiritually. We just have to trust that God knows what Hes doing

I'm gonna say yes because you are probably disturbed that you are thinking this and therefore are checking for reassurance to see if it's OCD.
2. When intrusive thoughts come bothering you, you don't cancel them anymore because you felt that you have actually done it several times already or that you feel tired of doing the compulsions.
It's good to not do the canceling compulsions, but then the OCD can suggest to you that this is a sign that you don't care and therefore aren't a Christian - yet another twist.
3. You feel that God has completely given up on you.
Yes again because you "feel" anxious/depressed about it and also because you feel the need to get reassurance about the thought.
4. You don't feel like reading the Bible.
Classic avoidance because reading the Bible forces out the OCD spikes even more which makes you extremely anxious and uncomfortable. (done that myself).
5. THat you yourself deliberately think the thoughts in your head and place a canceling word, and when you haven't placed a caneling word, you just shrug it off.
I'm gonna still say yes this is OCD. My OCD has suggested to me many times that I just don't care anymore... that this is really me and not OCD and it can really seem to be the case after such a long hard struggle. But if you really didn't care you wouldn't still be here on the forum checking for reassurance.
Checking and re-checking for reassurance is a typical OCD symptom.

Is this still OCD or is this a major spiritual problem, or is it depression???
OCD can certainly cause depression - it did that to me. The depression is usually conquered after the OCD is dealt with as it is a committent problem.

Now... this is all just my own opinion based upon my own experiences with religious OCD. I'm obviously not a DR. You really need to and should go to see a professional who has experience in treating people with OCD and most especially one who understand how to use exposure response prevention therapy.
Praying for you Parc - that you'll get the help you need soon to start down the right road to recovery.
