People, I found this while I was surfing the web and ... I think these are all stereotypes because my friend is goth but she is Christian.

If Your Child is a Gothic, Reform Through the Lord!

Listed below are some warning signs to indicate if your child may
have
gone astray from the Lord.

Gothic (or goth) is a very obscure and often dangerous culture that
young teenagers are prone to participating in. The gothic culture
leads
young, susceptible minds into an imagined world of evil, darkness,
and
violence. Please seek immediate attention through counselling,
prayer,
and parental guidance to rid your child of Satan's temptations if
five
or more of the following are applicable to your child:

-Frequently wears black clothing.

-Wears band and/or rock t-shirts.

-Wears excessive black eye makeup, lipstick or nailpolish.

-Wears any odd, silver jewelry or symbols. Some of these include:
reversed crosses, pentagrams, pentacles, ankhs or various other
Satanic
worshipping symbols.

-Shows an interest in piercings or tattoos.

-Listens to gothic or any other anti-social genres of music. (Marilyn
Manson claims to be the anti-Christ, and publicly speaks against the
Lord. Please discard any such albums IMMEDIATELY.)

-Associates with other people that dress, act or speak eccentrically.

-Shows a declining interest in wholesome activities, such as: the
Bible,
prayer, church or sports.

-Shows an increasing interest in death, vampires, magic, the occult,
witchcraft or anything else that involves Satan.

-Takes drugs.

-Drinks alcohol.

-Is suicidal and/or depressed.

-Cuts, burns or partakes in any other method of self-mutilation.
(This
is a Satanic ritual that uses pain to detract from the light of God
and
His love. Please seek immediate attention for this at your local
mental
health center.)

-Complains of boredom.

-Sleeps too excessively or too little.

-Is excessively awake during the night.

-Dislikes sunlight or any other form of light. (This pertains to
vampires promoting the idea that His light is of no use.)

-Demands an unusual amount of privacy.

-Spends large amounts of time alone.

-Requests time alone and quietness. (This is so that your chid may
speak
to evil sprits through meditation.)

-Insists on spending time with friends while unaccompanied by an
adult.

-Disregards authority figures; teachers, priests, nuns and elders are
but a few examples of this.

-Misbehaves at school.

-Misbehaves at home.

-Eats excessively or too little.

-Eats goth-related foods. Count Dracula cereal is an example of this.

-Drinks blood or expresses an interest in drinking blood. (Vampires
believe this is how to attain Satan. This act is very dangerous and
should be stopped immediately.)

-Watches cable television or any other corrupted media sources. (Ask
your local church for proper programs that your child may watch.)

-Plays videos games that contains violence or role-playing nature.

-Uses the internet excessively and frequently makes time for the
computer.

-Makes Satanic symbols and/or violently shakes head to music.

-Dances to music in a provocative or sexual manner.

-Expresses an interest in sex.

-Masturbates

-Is homosexual and/or bisexual.

-Pursues dangerous cult religions. Such include: Satanism,
Scientology,
Philosophy, Paganism, Wicca, Hinduism and Buddhism.

-Wears pins, stickers or anything else that contains these various
phrases: "I'm so gothic, I'm dead", "woe is me", "I'm a goth".

-Claims to be a goth.

If five or more of these apply to your child, please intervene
immediately. The gothic culture is dangerous and Satan thrives within
it. If any of these problems persist, enlist your child into your
local
mental health center.

According to that, I'm goth!!

-Complains of boredom (I sometimes do:( )

-Wears band and or rock t-shirts (I have a lot of Linkin park t-shirts and etc...)

-Sleeps to excessively or too little (I sleep a lot:sleep: )

-Plays video games that have violence and role-playing games (I play RPG's a LOT and most of them contain fighting=violence:| )

-Uses the computer excessively and frequently spends time on the computer. (I do that, but I'm not a geek!!:) )

I just want to ask if that's accurate and what you peeps think of it, so what do you think??

I think most of these describe Goth, but some of them are downright crazy! for example:

"violently shakes head to music." <-- I do that all the time when I listen to the beatles!

"Wears band and/or rock t-shirts. " <-- Those are awesome!

"Plays videos games that contains violence or role-playing nature , Uses the internet excessively and frequently makes time for the computer." <-- I think those two are wacked.

I don't want to be offensive to anybody, But I think this was made by a bunch of nuns who have nothing better to do that to condemn the things most teens do. However, I do agree with some of it, such as drinking blood and cutting or burning yourself. But a lot of the others are just normal.

I say those kind of criteria are stupid. Heck, I like to wear symbols of the occult as a pendant, like black clothes, like vampires and considers myself a Goth, but it does not mean that I worship Satan or anything. I just like being a Goth for the non-mainstream image that it conveys. it is to tell people that i am different from them.

I personally the goth foods catagory. I had no idea count chocual cereal was a direct pathway to the holy spirit. In all honsty, children who identify themselves witha certain culture are just growing up and learning what it is to be themselves. As long as nothing grows into excess they should be fine. Some of the things on this list are out right ridiculous and are the reasonchildren are turning to alternative lifestyles. Parents are too busy stopping their children from expressing themselves in any way to listen to them. Imagine if your parents lived by these rules. God help the children who's parents are.

While many of these are laughable, this one cracked me up -- who's to say what is eccentric? The way that my friends and I dress would probable be called eccentric in some circles. I also have a tattoo, and I like Count Chocula cereal. I frequently get bored. In fact, I counted 37 total signs that you might be a Goth, and I met 14 of them!

Oh good grief...what is it with stereotypes?

A lot of that is little more than insulting rubbish. I may not be a goth, but I would hope that people who actually learn the facts about goth culture instead of listen to "holier-than-thou" stereotypes.

Oh, and one more thing: There are many goths who are Christians.

I laughed out loud several times while reading this.

I don't have a problem with people who choose to dress in gothic-like fashion. I would, however, draw the line at occultic symbols, pendants, and practices, as they directly identify a person with the occult, and that is not something that a Christian should be doing.

The cereal, being alone, watching cable tv, etc, are all hilarious. Apparently every teen in the world is a gothic satanist. :p

Is This Message About Goths Accurate??

The basic answer to this Question is No.

I’ll give that there are some things on that list that do apply to Goths, but the problem with this list is not it being Stereotypical, but it is suffering from Over Generalization. Basically, it is written by someone that has done little to no research, to fully grasp the extent of the culture, or what is involved in it.

The problem with this list for the most part, is it written from Ignorance, and assumptions.

I would have to say, you would need to remove near to half this list and replace it with viable questions, that relate to the Goth Culture.

Key.

Sheesh. 20 years ago, we had the same list, only it was about satanism. Only, that list had "red pillows, especially with tassles" on the list.

It's lies, and worse. It will drive children away from the parents who should be supporting them, and lead parents to reject the children who need their love the most. It is lies, and evil lies, and lies that will more than likely wreck lives.

I will say this, I am less concerned about the eternal fate of the average goth than I am about the eternal fate of the authors of this list.

:help:

I have a friend who is about 12 and he said that he is "going to be a goth." Any ideas about what I should tell him? (in light of this list, that is... like should I say: "You shouldn't become a goth because Count Dracula cereal is of the devil!"?)

well i have friends that cover many of the list and yes some arent saved, but some are starting to accept christ. one friend of mine would deffinately be classed as satanic and yes that can include him going to church, but deep down he is a great person. As a christian he has helped me through alot of stuff in life and although his friends dont believe what he does he hasnt given up and stands as a witness of god to these other "gothic" people.
it isnt the labels that matters its how god sees you and how you reflect him by action and word.
