  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I apologize, I cannot view anything on Youtube due to my connection.

However, addressing your inquiry: As Christians we are, first and foremost, under God's rule, yet He also commands us to subject ourselves to the laws of the government (insofar as we are not being asked to deny Christ in some manner, of course.) Therefore, engaging in illegal activity is generally sinful.

My father was a Mexican immigrant who legally entered this country. I am now involved with a Mexican national, whom I dearly love and have known since the age of one. Our situation is arduous due to our very desire to do all things legally. It is a costly and heartbreaking process, yet we are willing to submit ourselves to it. Although the desperation that compels many individuals to enter a country illegally is understandable, I also find it frustrating because it is precisely this illegal activity that has compelled governments to enforce stringent measures that cause greater difficulties for those of us who wish to do everything properly.

As Starcradle posted... we are ultimately subject to God's laws. We are to obey our government's laws up to the point where they would cause us to disobey God's laws.

For instance...obeying the speed limit may seem petty to most people. But nothing about obeying the speed limit would cause you to break God's laws so you are to obey it. If our government passed a law that would ultimately lead you to break God's law then you would be justified in not obeying it since you would be disobeying God.

So in short...yes it's a sin.

*** I agree ****
We subject ourselves to man's laws for the Lord's sake ONLY if those laws do not violate our relationship with Jesus...
