Hey everyone, I've been looking to find this quote ascribed to Ali son of Abu Talib, which I saw a while back at a pro-palestine rally, but I've been searching the internet and nothing comes up. Anyway the quote is: "the world cannot defeat us until we accept defeat". Thank you in advance.

I have seen this quoted as: ‘The world cannot defeat YOU until YOU accept defeat.’

I’ve a number of works that contain sermons (extracts) and sayings attributed to Imam Ali, but the one you quote is not among them.

Although I am not a Muslim my son is. He studied Classical Arabic in the UK, and after graduating some eleven years ago moved to Morocco. A translator and copy-editor of classical scholars he specialises in Islamic History, Qur'anic Exegesis, and Sufism. He has an extensive library of Islamic works, none of which contain this saying.

It might be difficult to find, and even more difficult to authenticate. It any event, it would be no more than a personal opinion of the Imam.

If a jihadist terrorist says this, or if this is a worldly person's attitude, the person is already defeated in Satan's kingdom, whether the person accepts this or not.

Jesus says, "I have overcome the world," in John 16:33. So, yes there are people who are defeated, not accepting that they are defeated, and it doesn't matter what they think.

Ones can be like those Japanese who were holed-up in caves and would not believe Japan lost to the Allies.

My son has suggested you read 'Justice and Remembrance (Introducing the Spirituality of Imam Ali)' by Reza Shah Kazemi. You can find it on the Amazon site. Scroll down on the book's page and you will see others books, including one on the Ahl Ul Bayt.
