Is there two set of rules one in church and one in the world?

I often wish T.V. was not so non Christian these days. A movie can be just as good with out swearing, or sex sense, or huge amounts of violence. Most these things are used to make up for a poor script and talent.

Good point

USC made very Good points. There is one thing I have in mind but I am trying to avoid and address the underlining issue. Because if I mention it it will become the focus and that is not the op.

But we are commanded to behave in certain ways. Like Jesus said word is to be worth more than gold. and we should not lie. We should not lust after women, ad women men. Now these are some of the rules we would obey in church. Not many people look at women sexually in church i don't think, and like wise if a woman dressed sexual everyone would be shocked, yet women dress this way in the world, but not in church, and men restrain their lust in church but not the world. These are the rules or laws I speak of.

Just look at John the Baptist! Dude lived out in the desert eating bugs and had more Church than most of us! He could have gone to Temple every day, but didn't.

I think the bottom line is that we are all hypocrites. Since no one is without sin either at church or at home, we will do nothing more than kid ourselves if we think otherwise.

Abraham lied twice about his wife and slept with Hagar. Noah was just as wicked as his neighbors. He wasn't rewarded. God showed grace.

In some cases, I think there are people who are very hypocritical and think that what they do during the week has nothing to do with what they do or other people see on Sunday. In many other cases, I think there are people that feel guilty when they do things not pleasing to the Lord. I know I do and try as I might, I find myself repeating the same mistakes over and over.
Like Paul talks about his struggle with sin in Romans 7:18,19:
“I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do – this I keep on doing.”
There are many things that distract us from the true path and sometimes our pride keeps us from admitting our sins. We must be honest and admit that we are sinners saved by grace and not beyond the need for God's ongoing grace in our daily lives.
The more we realize our weakness, the more I think we will try to apply God's laws in our daily lives, rather than our own.

That is another Good point, some people follow God in their lives and rarely go to a building for worship.

I agree we are all hypocrites but doesn't God say not to be that. Didn't he say first remove the log from your eye before trying to help your brother?

I never said they did not sin, but Abraham did not engaged in acts of the city sodom and that was common then. Noah may have sinned like his neighbors but he walked close to God, if he had been just like his neighbors he to would have died with them, but like Abraham Noah was counted righteous by his faith.

Of course He said not to be hypocrites. He also said to be perfect. And Holy. However, we will all fall short. Way short. Like, not even close. Like, we are closer to being like Hitler than we are to being like Christ.

But instead of trying to be better we should be trying to draw closer. That's how we become more like Him.

maybe I was before I was saved closer to being evil, in fact i was wicked, but now I am saved Goodness lives inside of me.

So you think it is ok to disregard God's teaching because we will stumble? Funny I thought by following God closer was by doing better and sinning less.

The point is that everything you do is mixed with sin. You haven't had a thought that wasn't mixed with sin. If you think you have you don't know what sin is.

That is why we must rest in Christ alone. We have such a tendency to look to ourselves. Christ all and enough for the believer.

Now resting in Him we can seek His honor and glory in our lives. Recognizing that our best is not worthy to be mentioned much less applauded.

No, I don't think it's okay to disregard God's teaching. But trying to do so by your own power is futile. Drawing closer to Christ will, however, make you more like Him, and then you will better follow His teachings.

It took me time to understand, but know I know what John Piper meant when he said that even when we repent of sin, we sin.

Again....sigh....Lord's Supper/Communion is only to be done in church. No other time. I reject the modern day notion of doing communion in a small group setting. I would never participate without the pastor present.

I think you are in the wrong thread.

I will do my utmost to follow God's teachings. But I am in no way obligated to follow what you think is God's teachings. I will live my life in the liberty that He gives me instead of the bondage to rules and regulations man has set up from what they think God says. We are told to examine ourselves to see whether we are in the faith, meaning is our faith in Christ alone or in some experience or feeling or vision or in our faith. We are never told to examine ourselves to see if we are bearing fruit, nor are we ever told to examine one another.
