Jim M...I do not believe scripture explicitly teaches that there will be an endtime revival. Personally I doubt it. Anyhow, I dont have a clue what someone means when they say revival definitions of what it is are subjective and vary from person to person.
In the Book of Joel, I think it's future.. where He will pour out His spirit on all flesh..I believe this to be futuristic because since Christ, people have died without the Spirit. And the Bible talks about the former, and latter rains..Even in the Jesus movement, not all we're filled. I believe when He says ALL, he means just that. There are scriptures that suggest that there is something larger coming, because every one of these scriptures talks of the former rain moderatley, then the latter rain...Job 29:23, Pro 16:15, Joe 2:23 , Jam 5:7, Hsa 6:3...Possibly when He subjects all things to Himself.
I don't think this is a small "revival", but one that needs to come.
And that scripture that says, if He hadn't left us a seed, we would have been like Sodom and Ghamorrah.

Yep, I know that passage well (being a former AG pastor) and have taught it many times the former and latter rain and all. Its a good shoutin text in a Pentecostal church. Only Peter said, when he quoted that verse on the day of Penetcost, THIS is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel. He did not say This is some o dat or This is partially that or This is the former rain of that. He said that what was happening on that day was THAT!!

But personally, I do not necessarily see some metaphorical meaning in the autumn and spring rains in v.23. The verse says, Be glad, O people of Zion, rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given you the autumn rains in righteousness. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before.
It seems pretty plain to me that Joel is telling the people people of Israel that they should be grateful that through the years the Lord has given them ample rain in both of the rainy seasons. Pentecostals have added a metaphorical meaning to something that, IMO, was never meant to be figure of speech at all.

To me this does not go along with the the "this is that", statement. If this is that, spoken by Joel, and the Bible says that at sundry times, men were moved by the Holy Spirit to write the scriptures, and just a few men such as the prophets and deliverers that were sent, the Holy Spirit wasn't given to the masses. To me this would not discribe the former and latter rains. So that lets the "all flesh" out. Jesus said unless I go away the Spirit can't come. I don't think all the scriptures that say the same thing about a former and latter rain has to do with harvest of actual crops, such as these scriptures: ...Job 29:23, Pro 16:15, Joe 2:23 , Jam 5:7, Hsa 6:3.... and that's alot of time spent on talking farming.
