  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is there anyone there?

I started saying this prayer, recently, Anjelica, and have found it a boon in stressful situations - and I'm even wondering if it's carrying over to situations when I didn't specifically pray it :

'Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.'

I took it from this prayer, which Padre Pio used to say every day for those who asked for his prayers :

Efficacious Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

I. O my Jesus, you have said: "Truly I say to you, ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you." Behold I knock, I seek and ask for the grace of...... (here name your request)
Our Father....Hail Mary....Glory Be to the Father....Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

II. O my Jesus, you have said: "Truly I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you." Behold, in your name, I ask the Father for the grace of.......(here name your request) Our Father...Hail Mary....Glory Be To the Father....Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

III. O my Jesus, you have said: "Truly I say to you, heaven and earth will pass away but my words will not pass away." Encouraged by your infallible words I now ask for the grace of.....(here name your request) Our Father....Hail Mary....Glory Be to the Father...Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, for whom it is impossible not to have compassion on the afflicted, have pity on us miserable sinners and grant us the grace which we ask of you, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, your tender Mother and ours.
Say the Hail, Holy Queen and add: St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus, pray for us.
-- St. Margaret Mary Alacoque

-------------------------------------------

The other day, I found that when I tried to reverse my car into a parking space, to go to Mass. it seemed as if the handbrake was half on, but no, it wasn't that. Then I thought it seemed as if it could be that one of my tyres was flat, so I got out of the car to look. It was only after I'd checked and found that they were fine, that I spotted the words : 'DISABLED' on the road. I'd hate to have been fined or had the car towed away for something so foolish.

But even this morning I was puzzling over it, because, while I know the Lord obsesses over the lives and destinies of each one of us, at every single moment, 'like a mother hen, her brood' (each chickabiddy), He hasn't done anything as dramatically 'odd' like that that I can remember, over a relatively insignificant matter, when one considers the far greater dangers, trials and sufferings we all experience from time to time.

Reading on here about your predicament just now, it occurred to me that it might well have been in response to that prayer - or maybe boosted by my making the sign of the cross and a brief invocation of Our Lady's care, before I set off, but perhaps not the latter. I don't always do either or both. They had helped me, though, very recently to avoid a bad accident, after making a bad decision to overtake a truck at a T-junction. Every best wish for your happiness, asap, angelica, sweetheart.

One other thing, angelica. I don't know whether you have the opportunity to get absorbed in something you find of immense interest, but I have found that that was a fantastic pain-killer, when, after having a verruca burnt out with dry ice and walking home, I began reading the horse-racing column in a newspaper ! I forgot completely about my foot, the pain receding immediately .

I had to 'knock it on the head' several years ago, as God impressed on me that it was taking up too much of my time !

Paul becke, thankyou for your posts and for your lovely sentiments and the beautiful prayer. You are so right in what you say about engaging in something I like to kill pain. Unfortunately because I am almost completely blind and in a wheelchair, and sick, I am totally dependent on my husband who is controlling to the 'nth degree, and I can only do what he decides I can do. I have few chouces. He has to take me everywhere, put a CD on if I want one on, etc. etc. I cannot see the television or even put itmon for myself . I annot read. There are days when I do ot get fed. I cannot make even a drink for myself. I spend my time in bed when I am home because I cannot go into any other room in the house.

What I DO do is write poetry. ALL THE TIME! That is how I get through. ,plus praying and talking to God, like a Friend, ALL DAY. Thhat is my life. Social Services wanted me away from him for safety's sake but I am tussling with the Indissolubility of marriage. I jusy find it so hard to break my vows. But I am working through that one. At present I have nowhere to go anyway.

I am awaiting eye surgery which may not work, and the anaesthetic is dangerous to me. I could die. Atnonempoint my husband said that if I have the eye surgery I could not come home - he would turn me away at the door. He has changed on that now though.

You can see that it is not simple.

You all have keppt me going though. I love you all. Hugs.

I recall you said you lived not to far from Sheffield some time ago.
It's a shame, I'm never in that part of England but if I am I'll definitely let you know

It's sadly very far from London.
