“When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words." Matt. 6:5-7Hi Family,
In another thread a poster said to pray like the Lord's prayer but to not repeat it. Do you agree or is it religiosity creeping in?
He said he doesnt pray during Church prayer time.
What about public tongues?
Is there a wrong way to approach the Father? Or is that religiosity?
What about when we are sad, happy, weeping or mad?
What about praying like David...a man after God's own heart?
What about prayers of praise?

The Lord's prayer is a wonderful prayer, complete, addressing our Father, Who is Holy, a prayer for His kingdom and will, thanking Him for His provisions and allowing us to forgive others as He's done us. Deliver us from evil.
It's a template for all prayers. Repeating it over and over in "vain repetition" is not necessary. God already knows what you need and what is in your heart.
Sometimes others pray with elaborate and long drawn out wordy prayers as if to impress or send their own message to you or somehow instruct God how to deal with your certain situation. Make it simple, get to the point, God knows what you are going to pray before you pray. The point is, prayer is talking to God. He wants to hear from us. If you have faith and a relationship with Him, you'll talk to Him often and never leave Him out of your everyday life activities, thoughts and decisions. "Your will be done", follows my prayers, because sometimes I might not be praying for the right things, so I'll leave it His will be done. And basically, that is the best way to go since we often err in our decisions and actions.
So, in essence, finding a prayer that covers all of your needs and your families as well is good to repeat that often. I have a standard prayer and it is much like the Lord's prayer, but I don't repeat it in one sitting as if God takes it more seriously the more times you say it. That said, if Catholics choose that and they feel their prayers are answered and they have a relationship with God, let them. I speak to God, very often in a plain conversation, giving thanks first and praise, then I just talk. That's prayer, talking to God.
