Hi Family,

In another thread a poster said to pray like the Lord's prayer but to not repeat it. Do you agree or is it religiosity creeping in?

He said he doesnt pray during Church prayer time.

What about public tongues?

Is there a wrong way to approach the Father? Or is that religiosity?

What about when we are sad, happy, weeping or mad?

What about praying like David...a man after God's own heart?

What about prayers of praise?

I don't know... As for me though, I just "do it the way I do it", or that I like, or feel comfortable with at the time or in the moment, and leave it at that...

God Bless!

My ways and forms of praying have evolved or changed over the years, but I don't think I was doing wrong back then, because of that...

God Bless!

Scripture tells me not to repeat any prayers or pray in public.
But as I said, people can pray while they cartwheel naked if they wish.
There is never a bad reason for prayer. But God provides me guidelines to follow.
And I share them: Who Else Wants to finally SEE Gods Answers to Prayers?

For the sake of this thread are you saying that you can never use the same prayer that you prayed even 20 years ago? Or yesturday for that matter?

Here comes that creepy poster again:

1“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

2“Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

The Lord’s Prayer

5“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

7“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9Pray then like this:

“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.a
10Your kingdom come,
your will be done,b
on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread,c
12and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.d

What about the Disciples praying in tongues? Was the Holy Spirit allowing a contradition of His Word?

We are told that praying in tongues is for public use. Is the Bible contradicting itself or are tongues not prayer?

If 2 or more are gathered in prayer are they wrong? How many more is too many to pray with before it is unacceptable?

Isnt it about the heart of the man? Or is it religiosity?

I see it as a very good example of what not to do. People slaughtered other nations in scripture. You don't have to follow anyone's lead in scripture. It's a historical document.

If you don't see what I see in scripture, it's the Holy Spirits problem to set us right...or not.

A very good example of what not to do.

So the Holy Spirit is wrong?

We are told tongues are for a crowd.

The disciples, with the Holy Spirit filled the upper room with prayers.

We are supposed to pray in two or more to have change. How many more makes a crowd?

Are you saying the Word is wrong?

We are told to pray in two or more for impact. How many more is just too many?

We are told tongues is for a group. Is tongues not prayer? Was the Lord wrong?

You're not quoting scripture, is the problem.
It's easy to argue if you quote from memory.

So your heart is for automatically correcting scripture...not possibly seeing you many be wrong?

You still havent addressed the public tongues issue.

There is power in more than one praying together, but only if they are of "one mind and one accord"... Truly dwelling in unity IOW's... And they probably had their own ego's removed or not being any part, or playing any part in these prayers either, and together, and there is power in that...

That is why the Holy Spirit came down or fell on them in the form of flames touching their tongues, ect, began speaking in tongues, ect (Pentecost) (50th day after Jesus crucifiction) and his no longer appearing to people in a or the or His physical resurrected form, like He did at that time...

Anyway, It was to them now... us now... And we have the Holy Spirit now... Or at least available now... And that is very, very awesome indeed...

God Bless!

Scripture is correct:

19 Again, I tell you truly that if two of you on the earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather together in My name, there am I with them.”

I've been in such groups scores of times. I do not pray with them.

The Lord's prayer was then also. Either you take the full Word or none at all as authority and relevance. We arent supposed to pick and choose.

Im assuming you are saying tongues are not for today.

I'm going to just disregard that previous line k...?

As for this (above), I would say "I do not know", and ask you to tell me what you think maybe...?

God Bless!

James 5:14-15

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

Acts 2:42 ESV / 119 helpful votes
And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
