hi
Can anyone give me some good prayer suggestions for the following:

-sober thoughts
-to repent for my vengeful attitude
-peace of mind and soul
-to be happy with somebody new (this has to do with the eye opening experience i had when I finally called it quits with my ex. it's in the non-christian struggle forum)

Lord, you know the pain and anguish that BOJAX has gone through this year over the break-up. Comfort him and bring him hope for a new life. Direct his thoughts forward, his hopes and dreams to new and exciting ventures.

Bring people into his life who will support him, encourage and want the best for him.

Help him set aside his resentments, his fear of control, his anger at the ways others have taken awayinfringed on his rights. Set him free. Jesus, you cleanse every sin and heal our wounds. By your stripes we are healed.

Bring refreshing relationships, and give him peace of mind. Thank you for everything you have done in his life this year. Thank you even for his gratefulness to you. Continue to show him that You have a plan, and are weaving together people and circumstances for his benefit.

Matthew 6:25-34
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? For after all these things do the Gentiles seek: for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

Psalms 91:1-2
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

New Relationship...(?)
Romans 15:5-7
Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 1:10
Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

Ephesians 5:2,19,30
And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

Philippians 2:1-2
If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, {being} of one accord, of one mind.

Hebrews 10:24-25
And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

1 John 4:7-8
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

1 John 4:10-12
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

John 15:12-14,17
This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. These things I command you, that ye love one another.

1Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

A Prayer of the Optina Elders

O Lord, grant me strength to meet with serenity everything forthcoming today. Grant me to submit completely to Thy holy will. At every hour of this day guide and support me in all things. Whatsoever news may reach me in the course of this day, teach me to accept it with calmness and the conviction that all is subject to Thy holy will.

In all my words and actions direct my thoughts and feelings. In all unexpected occurances, do not let me forget that all is sent down by Thee. Teach me to deal straightforwardly and wisely with every member of my family, neither embarassing nor saddening anyone.

O Lord, grant me strength to endure the fatigue of the coming day and all the events that take place during it. Direct my will and teach me to pray, to believe, to hope, to be patient, to forgive and to love. Amen.

According to the Hours of the Day and Night

1. O Lord, deprive me not of Thy heavenly blessings;
2. O Lord, deliver me from eternal torment;
3. O Lord, if I have sinned in my mind or thought, in word deed, forgive me.
4. O Lord, deliver me from every ignorance and heedlessness, from pettiness of the soul and stony hardness of heart;
5. O Lord, deliver me from every temptation;
6. O Lord, enlighten my heart darkened by evil desires;
7. O Lord, I, being a human being, have sinned; do Thou, being God, forgive me in Thy lovingkindness, for Thou knowest the weakness of my soul.
8. O Lord, send down Thy grace to help me, that I may glorify Thy holy Name;
9. O Lord Jesus Christ, inscribe me, Thy servant, in the Book of Life, and grant me a blessed end;
10. O Lord my God, even if I have done nothing good in Thy sight, yet grant me, according to Thy grace, that I may make a start in doing good.
11. O Lord, sprinkle on my heart the dew of Thy grace;
12. O Lord of heaven and earth, remember me, Thy sinful servant, cold of heart and impure, in Thy Kingdom.
13. O Lord, receive me in repentance;
14. O Lord, leave me not;
15. O Lord, save me from temptation;
16. O Lord, grant me pure thoughts;
17. O Lord, grant me tears of repentance, remembrance of death, and the sense of peace;
18. O Lord, grant me mindfulness to confess my sins;
19. O Lord, grant me humility, charity, and obedience;
20. O Lord, grant me tolerance, magnanimity, and gentleness;
21. O Lord, implant in me the root of all blessings: the fear of Thee in my heart;
22. O Lord, vouchsafe that I may love Thee with all my heart and soul, and that I may obey in all things Thy will;
23. O Lord, shield me from evil persons and devils and passions and all other lawless matters;
24. O Lord, Who knowest Thy creation and that which Thou hast willed for it; may Thy will also be fulfilled in me, a sinner, for Thou art blessed forevermore. Amen.

Wow!what a beuitiful prayer!

I didn't read all of the verses that devoted daughter put down so I hope I'm not repeating.
Here's some verses on peace.

and the work of righteosness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurence forever. Isaiah 32:17

Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means...
2 thessalonians 3:16

Peace I leave with you ,my peace I give unto you:not as the world giveth,give I unto you.Let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid.

hi
Can anyone give me some good prayer suggestions for the following:
-sober thoughts
-to repent for my vengeful attitude
-peace of mind and soul
-to be happy with somebody new
also does anyone have any scripture suggestions for me to read regarding these issues
thanks

Good question, Bojax. A lot to think about. First prayer suggestion would be to pray to the one true God, which I believe is the Christian God. The second would be to become a Christian (one who has trusted Christ to be his sinbearer, without any good works of his own).
If you have doubts about these, here's a good site:
For a short, basic search, excellent summaries to a searcher's questions can be found in:
www.rb.org/questions/ , by then clicking on the Bible, or Christianity, or God, or www.rbc.org/ds/salvation and click on "Why we believe, evidences for Christian faith"

Some might say that I'm getting off the track, but I believe those two points are the most vital suggestions I could give on prayer.

Then, you might pray something like this:

Ps 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (NIV)

There are many prayers in the B ible, especially in the Psalms and at the beginning or ending of the NT Epistles, that could also guide you.

As for the specific questions Christian recovery groups have helped me work through them myself - groups such as Overcomers, that might be meeting in some of your local churches. Christian self-help books also are good - I especially like Pat Springle's works. They would give good Scriptures for specific issues.

God bless you, friend. He is able to deliver.

-sober thoughts
Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

-to repent for my vengeful attitude
Mat 18:21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
Mat 18:22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

-peace of mind and soul
3 John 1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
3 John 1:3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

-to be happy with somebody new (this has to do with the eye opening experience i had when I finally called it quits with my ex. it's in the non-christian struggle forum) etc etc
Phil 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
Phil 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

also does anyone have any scripture suggestions for me to read regarding these issues
Luke 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

thanks

It's all about sowing and reaping .... give , forgive , intercede , change...
what can I do better , differently , or change in me to be like Him ^
getting our eyes off of self ... who can I help , bless , pray for , forgive

Matthew 6:9-13
Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name
Your kingdom come, Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts (sins)
As we also have forgiven our debtors ( of their sins against us)
And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.
Amen. :pray:
