Is the 3 second rule a good one to follow?

The 3 second rule is a rule some guys use that says, 'If you see a girl you think is cute you should approach her within 3 seconds to get the best results.' If you wait longer than that you will over think it and mess it up or you won't approach her at all. What do you think ladies and gents?

although JMHO - if a guy took one look at me and within 3 seconds was striking up a conversation with me, that'd likely scare me away. I just get an image in my mind of locking eyes with someone across a room and he bolts to come and talk to me so he can make the 3 second rule

He would probably walk up to you and say something like, 'You look like my sister. I really like my sister.'

I don't think it has to be that quick. But if she's giving green light signals, ie. smiling directly at you and doing something like tossing her hair, you should make your move.

Otherwise, sprinting across the room to say hi, in under 3 seconds... doesn't seem the best way to make a first impression.. I mean a lasting one certainly but not in the most positive light.
