Is that your grandchild?

Have any of you with large families (or any of you who are older moms) ever been asked if your child was your grandchild?

I have a friend who is 25. She has a little brother who is 4. The other day somebody she hasn't seen in a long time asks if the brother is her child. My friend says her mother gets asked ALL the time if the little guy is her grandchild.

Does it/would it offend you?

I was asked if my nephews were mine when I was just a teenager! LOL

I will strive to love my age no matter how old I am, reminding myself that gray hair is attained by a righteous life and is a crown of splendor (Proverbs 16:31).

I think part of embracing this calling that God has placed on my life is excepting what the world is used to seeing and this is not a modern way of living. I choose to use use it as an opportunity to witness -instead of getting offended for the numerous people who plainly aren't in full understanding of why we chose this.

We are to be in this lifestyle as a blessing to God, not a lifestyle against those who aren't in it. So, embrace all the truth and love on those who are striking up a conversation -it's a perfect time to talk about what Jesus has done in your life! :D

God bless!

ETA: "You" is meant in a general sense... ;)

My oldest 2 have been asked if our youngest (now 5) is one of their kids. *rolleyes* They're like, NO! That's my SISTER! LOL

So far I haven't been accused of being the grama, but I'm sure it'll happen here soon since I'm having this baby at a "mature" age. ;) lol Actually, I color my hair, use wrinkle cream, and do whatever I can think of to look younger than I am... It must work because those who don't know my age assume I'm about 10 yrs younger than I am... ;)

Our two older DDs have been asked before if our younger DSs are their sons. They just laugh it off.

No one has asked if I'm gramps, yet, but I have been a grandpa for almost two years now.

I didn't choose the handle Sabertooth to mean "long in the tooth...";)

Not Quiverful here however I do come from a large family with numerous siblings (7) and being the youngest I remember having to go home in Brownies and ask for our mothers ages.
Coming back another night I had said 40 something...and was more or less called a liar...I was told that I was asked for my MOTHERs age...NOT my GRANDMOTHER's age...
I remember crying as I felt horrible, didnt know what to do...as really I wasnt lying...
Many times growing up my oldest sister would be mistaken for my mother...ohhh would she get angry LOL :D

OH yes!! I experienced this too! I forgot about that. My parents were the oldest in our school (granted I attended a K-12 school with just 150 students... ;) ) They were in their 50's all throughout. I would tell others how old my parents were and their jaws would drop. I was a bit ignorant though so I never caught on -until I got older and the mom's who were involved in Yearbook and stuff (in 8th grade) were all in their early 30's... and I thought that was weird because my oldest sister (I'm one of 6) was in her 30's. LOL

My mom was 35 when she had my youngest daughter. My parents are both in their 60's now and their "baby" is now 20 with her own baby on the way.

Yeah my parents were always the oldest out of all the parents. My mum didn't have kids until her mid 30's, which isn't so unusual now. But my mum would love it because she looks great for her age! She's on her way to 60 and looks like she's in her 40's (and acts like she's in her 20's  )
I like having my kids young, they still have great-grandparents around and involved.

Personally I think that if we are going to have children, when we already have children old enough to be parents, then it is to be expected that people are going to get confused.
Most people know that my youngest is mine. But my daughter, who had her first a week ago, so I am now officially a grandma, was shopping with me a couple of day before she had hers, and was holding her brother who is 10mths old. I saw this woman looking at DD's belly, and looking at my son and shaking her head. I told DD and we both just laughed.
Although my younger girls, who are in their teens, at times don't want to push their brothers pram, as they get too many snooty and disaproving looks. They have been asked if he was theirs, much to their disgust.
We just end up having a lot of fun and laughs when we're shopping.

My mom had my youngest brother when she was 45. I personally think it's rude to go up to a woman with a child and ask if she's the grandmother. Who does that? But, my brother has a niece who is about 5 years older than him. My mom has been asked, "Are you the mother?" (like at a doctor's appointment for the baby.) I was once asked if the baby was mine, or my mother's, that threw me back because I was like, "Dude! I'm only 16!" It's like... oh gosh, everyone thinks I'm the kid's mom. :(

And yes, I think when my mom gets comments like that, she does get slightly offended. I get offended too!

MY FIL got asked if his baby sister was his because there's 23 years difference between them. Now they appear to be closer in age, I think, so I doubt anyone would make the mistake now.

i have the opposite problem. I look way younger than i am and my oldest is 19. When he was 13 yrs old i was in the grocery store with him and this man kept following us around staring at us. Finally when i was checking out he came up and said "i am so sorry for staring at you but when you came in i thought you were a teenager and i almost had a heart attack when i saw him call you "mom"..is he REALLY your son?"...lol
Come on now..i was 32 yrs old...i dont think i looked like a TEENAGER ..thats a bit of an exaggeration...lol
