Yes.

So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. "He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. (John 6:53-54)

I go to a modern church on a Sunday, they don't take holy communion, I also go to a traditional church on a Friday to take holy communion.

Interested to hear people's thoughts, is it important to take Holy communion to repent our sins? Or do you believe this is not important?

The eating of bread and wine is symbolic, so to the words jesus said about the eating of his flesh and drinking of his blood. The symbolism from Jesus is to immerse yourself in the life and teachings that he encouraged (as best anyone can) and thus become his flesh and blood, to become 'like him', living with love, compassion, forgiveness etc, thus creating a literal entity from a symbolic wording. It wasn't symbolism referring to symbolism, and trotting to church to eat rice paper and drink some wine, as that 'literally' creates nothing, other than more symbolism.

Also observation of your actions and how they play out in the world and perhaps in need of change can be done anytime, you don't need to pop to church and put bread in your mouth and fancy it up by calling it 'repenting for your sins'.

As a matter of fact, at the present time, my wife and I are taking communion twice a day, and three times on Sunday. (64 times a month) It's that important to us.
Seems a trifle excessive, if you don't mind me saying so.

I like trifle (yum)

It can make a good snack.

You may want to ask this in the Christian only area of the forums, if you don't get answers from the non-Christians.

Personally, when I believed I could take it or leave it. It wasn't that big of a deal to me.

What is the correct answer? I guess it's maybe in the eye of the beholder.

I need to talk to someone at my Sunday church about this, maybe ask on Friday too.

I think your right re the eye of beholder. I wasn’t trying to be unduly negative about communion and just saying that in and of itself its just a symbolic gesture. If you are applying some of your sins that are in need of repentance (or actions that may be in need of change, or some you have changed and you are cementing that change with the symbolic gesture of communion) to that, then the symbolism is a defining aspect to something you are applying to your life. You may feel that once a week is enough to do that, others may deem that they need that ten times a week. I don’t need it at all, as I internalise those components that need change on a daily basis. I think many people just follow the routine of communion without anything added which is to turn it into a ritualistic mundane thing. Just my take.

Is taking Holy Communion important?

Accepting or declining HC is important.

The Lords Supper

I decline sometimes because I accept I have not been a perfect christian. My study of the Lord's Supper has led me to evaluate myself each time communion is offered. I am inclined to confirm it is wrong to take HC if I have not been perfect. Watson's essay also taught me that the Lord's Supper is important to observe everyday and not just on the day HC is offered.

Reading Watson's essay is always worthwhile and encouraging to any Christian who focuses on Yeshua's work on the cross.

Thank you for your very interesting post, I am going to my church tonight the one that doesn't take HC, I am going to ask them all about it and there reasons for not doing it.

I will keep you informed as to there reply.

John 5:24

English Standard Version (ESV)

24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

Yes it is important, but remember to........

1 Corinthians 11:25-27

King James Version (KJV)

25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

And........

John 6:55-60

King James Version (KJV)

55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.
60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?

It is important!

Praise be to GOD the heavenly father and his son lord JESUS CHRIST forever>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I had no idea how many other Christians were just as confused about Communion as I once was. I, too, just took the word of other people that "do not partake in an unworthy manner", meant "do not partake if you are unworthy." (Truly a lie from the pit of Hell)

When I was finally able to understand the difference, you could hardly keep me from Communion. I mean, I had to be sick in bed not to take it.

Then came another realization: I didn't have to be at church to share in Communion. And, much of the promises actually centered on eliminating the physical sickness that was keeping me from going to church. Well, how do you receive any of that if you think you have to go somewhere to get it, yet you are too sick to get there? Kinda dumb... especially when Jesus showed us none of the extra fluff we have added to Communion was ever a part of what He offered at that famous Last Supper.

Next, I began searching to learn what more there was to Communion than just "remembrance" of Him. Wow! What a world of understanding began opening up.
