  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Is 'stealing cable' immoral?

What if it is in the air or on your property?

It is still wrong. For instance, if a guest leaves their purse behind when they visit that doesn't give me the right to keep it because it is in my house.

I find this thread very strange indeed.

That is because you probably never got 'free' cable or internet. Not that I would ever even think about doing that.

You're taking advantage of a service that someone is supposed to be providing for a fee... the bottom line is that other people have to work and shell out cash to keep those signals going and the expectation is that they're supposed to be paid for... so using them without paying is wrong.

What about wireless modems?

If the network is open and free to use I see nothing wrong but when you start cracking WEP keys that's when it becomes immoral.

As far as receiving free cable goes, just because you can doesn't mean you should. You're still receiving a service you didn't pay for, the ethical thing to do would be to call the cable company and ask them if it's OK.

Some say stealing cable is wrong. Others say its on the airwaves of a free country, nobody should have to pay for it if its out there for everyone to take. What do you say?
If its on the airwaves and unencoded then I don't see how youre stealing...

If it's encoded, and you make an illegal device to decode it, yes that is illegal and immoral (unless youre the authority, given permission to do so by the proper sources).

If Being out in the open means its free to take would be nice.... however that is more of a socialistic thing, and being free to take depends on who is broadcasting.
