  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is Solomon saved?

Is he saved like his father David?

Why wouldn't he? Those who came before Yeshua looked forward to the coming of Messiah. Those who live after, live looking back at Messiah. Either way we are both looking to Messiah.

Is he saved like his father David?

I've heard both "yes" and "no" on this particular subject. One of the "no" answers I heard was actually stated by one (maybe two?) of my professors from bible college. However, upon my own study and reflection of the Scriptures over the past few decades, I'd say that Solomon ended up "saved" by the end of his life, even though a good chunk of the middle portion of his life was filled with spiritual fraud.

Peace

Ecclesiastes is accepted by many to be written by Solomon. The last words of his in the Bible were,

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14, 1984 NIV)

Did he repent before he died?
The Bible does not say that.

I'm basically going to affirm what Greg J. has already said above. I think Ecclesiastes indicates a positive end for Solomon, but one that came after his having experienced many sins and vanities which he regretted.

The Bible does not say that.

So then it's probably a good idea not to pass judgment on someone who lived thousands of years ago and about whom we can know only what we are told; and whose salvation (like yours and mine) depends solely upon the gracious God who has condescended to rescue us in Christ and, like you and me, will stand before the same Judge and God; and thus his salvation (like yours and mine) is entirely up to God.

If he is so wise and God had given him so much wealth, more than his father.
And he built temple for God.
How come a man like that can turn away from God and worshiped idols?
Seems it is due to his pagan wives.

Yeeesssssss ..... good point! Solomon's accumulation of pagan wives was one of three major factors that caused Solomon to "apostasize" for many years of his life. So, his life serves as a warning to the rest of us, just as does the account of how half of Israel turned away from God to worship the golden calf--right after having been saved from Pharoah's army via the Red Sea crossing in the Exodus.

These are the kinds of things that belong in Ripley's Believe It or Not. But, the Bible shows many instances of this kind of thing. Remember how some of the religious leaders spurned Jesus, even after He healed people right in front of their faces?

The idea that Solomon, a holy prophet of the Church and the author of much of sacred scripture, did not repent and was not among those saved from Hades by our Lord during the "Harrowing of Hell" is frankly scandalous.

So in short, yes, Solomon is saved, and it would not be inappropriate to refer to him as St. Solomon. I believe there are Orthodox icons depicting him.

1 King: Chapter 11:
40 Solomon tried to kill Jeroboam, but Jeroboam fled to Egypt, to Shishak the king, and stayed there until Solomon's death.
41 As for the other events of Solomon's reign--all he did and the wisdom he displayed--are they not written in the book of the annals of Solomon?
42 Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years.
43 Then he rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of David his father. And Rehoboam his son succeeded him as king.
In 1 King, it does not specifically mentioned Solomon turned away from idols.
The whole chapter 11 specifically pinpoint the story about Solomon's betrayal of the Lord's commandment.
