sola scriptura = bible worship = idolism

scripture is good for learning and profitable for knowledge as the bible says, it is inspired by God.

The "Word" of God is technically Jesus Christ himself. Remember "Logos" was transferred to "Word" in the English bibles. Logos is used to describe Christ's divinity.

"In the beginning was the Logos, and the Logos was with God, and the Logos WAS God"

The traditions of Jesus are His parables, but the disciples that abode with Him were given the exact meanings. Some churches still teach in parables, some teach with exact meanings. Both are scriptural and follow Jesus' example. The body has many functions, cutting of the ear of one to spite the nose of another isn't scriptural.

I find this interesting. Of course some apostolic traditions were written(ie scripture) but others were not written down just handed down orally from generation to generation wouldn't you agree as 2 Thess 2:15 demonstrates this?

That sounds logical to me and I never thought about that

It's not an effective secret code to God if you have someone there decyphering it on the spot.

I also don't understand the bit about Satan not being able to hear our prayers in the first place. Does he eavesdrop?

Maybe he hears little Bobby praying for a new xBox and Satan says to his legion "If we get Bobby a Wii instead, we can bring Bobby over to the dark side"

2 Thes 2:
2:15 Therefore, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold on to the traditions that we taught you, whether by speech or by letter.

Handed down in letters yes, and what have remained are in a book that is the Christian standard. When the letter to Thes was written there were those who didn't need letters when they heard it firsthand from the authors. As there were also many who heard it from those who had directly been with Jesus as Hebrews states.

What did Jesus teach for these forty days? The bible doesn't tell us. Do you think it was important?

Acts 1
3After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.

In what way does that relate to the topic? The proofs were that he was alive.
The kingdom is the main topic of the gospels. When he appeared to the couple in their journay out of Jerusalem after His death and before all of the disciples had proof that He was alive, all He did was expand the scriptures of what was written about Him.

Mark 1:15 And saying "has been filled the Time and has-neared the Kingdom of the God.
Be ye reforming/repenting!/metanoeite <3340> (5720)! and be ye believing!/pisteuete <4100> (5720) in the Good-Message.
[Luke 21:31/Reve 16:11]

Matthew 21:43 Therefore I am saying to ye, that shall be being taken-away from ye the Kingdom of the God, and it shall be being given to a Nation doing the Fruits of it.

Kindgdom Bible Studies Kingdom of God Part 1

*snip*
........It is significant to note that the phrases "Kingdom of God" and "Kingdom of Heaven" are not to be found in the Old Testament. They are strictly New Testament terms beginning with John the Baptist and Jesus. When Jesus came He did not preach a message called grace, or salvation, or justification, or sanctification, or regeneration, or even the Church.

Could there be any more glorious message than the one that fell from His lips as He began His sonship ministry declaring, "The KINGDOM OF GOD IS AT HAND!" From that time forward the great teaching of the Lord centered in the truth of THE KINGDOM. His gospel was the gospel (good news) of the Kingdom of God.

Dear LLOJ,

Good one:thumbsup: Yes, this is central to Christ's preaching. It, or the 'kingdom of Heaven' or 'of my Father' is mentioned 13 times in St. Mark, 6 times in St. Luke and twice by St. John. There are no OT occurrences of these phrases. Paul refers to it only 7 times. In Revelation there are 3 I can see, 1:19; 11:15 and 12:10, but none from the lips of the Risen Lord. Hebrews uses it once, James once and 1 Peter twice.

All in all its attestation as the central part of Our Lord's teaching is clear.

peace,

Anglian

As I mentioned in another thread the 23 chap of Matt's 7 parables seems to correspond to the 7 churches of Revelations 2-3. They are similar in aspects of the church growing so that all sorts of birds nested in the branches etc.Another sililarity is the 7 churches that Paul wrote to and the 7 churches of Revelations 2-3.
The parables and the letters to the 7 churches of revelations is the history as Jesus taught it and events as god saw and prdicted them.

The sowing of the seeds is the divine program for the church of Christ, the soil being the conditions of the heart (note that of the seeds planted only 1/4 fell on good ground)
The parable of the tares/wheat is the character of the seeds (Acts 13:10) etc. etc.

How sad. If that is what reading the Bible does, it strikes me as a good argument for encountering God in His fullness in the Church. I came to God because He came to me first. He came because He loved me. He is love. If you need something to scare you, try horror movies.

Dear LLOJ,

I am with our sister Dorothea on this. What that thread shows is how dangerous it is to rely upon one's own reading of Scripture. To criticise an Apostle of Christ and to call him an heretic just because of a 'gut feeling' would be enough to make me think Sola/o Scriptura dangerous - even if I could find something in Scripture which told me what should be in it:)

Thanks any way bro;

peace,

Anglian
