 So, my newest bump in the road that I have come across is, is it considered prayer when you are singing and praising? I love to sing out loud in my car sometimes just because I am thinking about my Lord. At work I sometimes start to hum my favorite song Rushing Wind when I am walking down the hall way. Is this a form of prayer? If it is then I am praying to God everyday. I even make up my own songs sometimes. I love to just sing out loud to him. Oh I wish you could hear my as I am typing here. I am practically shouting because my Lord loves me so much.

SING ME A SONG IN MY HEART DAILY.
Anytime you communicate with God, it's prayer.

One of the things I'm trying to learn to do is not to limit prayer to a specific time or method, but to continuously be in an attitude of prayer.

May I suggest and excellent book by Thomas Merton called "Contemplative Prayer"? I've found it to be very helpful.

Wow! How cool is that? I would say a resounding yes. Prayer is communication between you and God. Whether you be singing or talking. I sing a lot to Him too. My favorite verse is Zeph 3:17 "The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty, He will save, He will rejoice over thee with joy. He will rest in His love, He will joy over thee with singing." He's singing to and over us too.

Yes Solomon's Song is one , but does anyone believe it was bellowed or shrieked by a woman or a man in inappropriate dress with a six piece rock band at highest electronic amplification ? No it was not...
No one knows anything really about the Temple liturgy, and we know only the words to a few early Christian chants or hymns from S Paul...Modern instruments in the sanctuary together with the sexual inspiration of the world defeat the spirit of prayer.
The "music" ministry of much charismanic waywardness is something they have invented.

I was warned by someone right in the heat of it that it was all going desperately rotten. Now her whole community which went in for all this raucous approach has imploded...it does not exist...that used to be somewhere people thought they were meeting God.

Sad really , doesn't have to be so.Take the r&R out, it doesn't belong there !

I think others will disagree with me, but yes I feel that songs are a great way to worship the Lord! A great way to show your joy and thanks to Him. I think every church has some sort of hymnal they sing from, and sometimes they sing His prasies directly from their hearts. Does it have to be complicated? No. The prasies that come from the heart is what God is most concerned about...

I have a CD of Alan Jackson's Christmas songs..There are two songs that I particularly love..they move me to tears..The Angels Cried and There's A New Kid In Town..they speak of the birth of Christ and are filled with simplistic love..love that just IS..They are beautiful to me because they resonate with my relationship with Christ, and the truth of that touches me. It reminds me of my thankfulness of my Savior, and the mercy of God.

Do I think that there is no use for the old songs? Well heck no! I just feel that it's wonderful that even in dark times a light shines and the darkness comprehends it not...Hope is still on the horizon.:)

This may be true in Western Protestant practice, but the rest of Christianity has a lot more. For instance, we have the liturgy of St. James. In addition, we have a very full description of the early 2nd century (c. 100) church and it's liturgy. It's very much the same in structure as Divine Liturgy today.

Peace.
