 So, my newest bump in the road that I have come across is, is it considered prayer when you are singing and praising? I love to sing out loud in my car sometimes just because I am thinking about my Lord. At work I sometimes start to hum my favorite song Rushing Wind when I am walking down the hall way. Is this a form of prayer? If it is then I am praying to God everyday. I even make up my own songs sometimes. I love to just sing out loud to him. Oh I wish you could hear my as I am typing here. I am practically shouting because my Lord loves me so much.
PRAISE GOD!!!!
SING ME A SONG IN MY HEART DAILY.

If you speak with God,

Whether it's singing praises or walking down the street thanking him for your day, you are talking to God. We can praise him with our words, our actions, and our lives. to answer your question, yes, you are praying to God, using your talent to build a relationship with him through prayer.

i think it is, but it isnt.
it can be commuicating with God, so it is fellowshiping and talking which is often called prayer by many people today.

but ultamitly i dont think it is, unless what your doing is asking for something.
i think prayer is more petition or intercession, seeking and asking for something, its pure fellowship too, but ultamitly your seeking something FROM God.

and worship is greatly needed, but it isnt doing that.
it is only preparing you to enter his presence so that you can effectively pray.
i see worship as a time of GIVING to the Lord, and prayer as a time of seeking something FROM God. and that is why i do not put them together.

though the bible does say to make melody in your heart to the Lord, and i do think it is neccesary to keep a song in our heart continually, but i do not beleive it is a replacement of or equal to praying, becuase prayer is where you ask of God and bring things into this world, and worship alone doesnt do that, thats not its purpose, it prepares you to enter into his presence and keeps his presence on you.

worship helps prayers, but i dont think it is prayer.
thats just my opinion, if some people disagree i dont see a problem with it.

I don't see why singing can't be considered as a form of prayer. The great thing I find about God is that he knows your heart. He knows how you really feel even if you don't speak out loud. I think its wonderful that you are singing praises to God. Singing (despite the fact that I'm not very good at it) certainly helps me focus on God, allowing me to be more precise with other things which I need to talk to God about. :prayer:

For sure!! it can be prayer. Prayer is just fellowship with the Lord. It doesn't have to be asking for something, just as it doesn't have to be thanking Him for anything. It can be anything you want. I've personally had arguements with the Lord when I've been mad at Him for something that He's done that I don't agree with. If your heart is in the right place, then I don't believe that it matters whether you're singing, signing, or just at home in your quiet time. You can be in prayer as long as your heart is in fellowship with Him. I encourage you if you find that singing or poetry makes your prayers more sincere for you, keep doing it. Praise the Lord that we can come to Him in so many ways.

God Bless

I believe you can praise and pray to God in all sorts of ways. I especially love music as you can get quite emotional adn carried away when singing. I think that your attitute and your feelings give the words real meaning. I remember when I used to go to church as a child and I would sing the hymns and that was all it was just singing. However when I became a Christian later in life and returned to Church and sangs hymns again, all of a sudden I found myself really singing like I meant it, and the words had real meaning and a powerful message, where as before they were just words. So I think its our love of God that gives a hymn or a praise and worship (love praise and worship!) song meaning not just the words. I often find myself singing a P&W song that is in fact something that I want to pray about, and this changes they way you feel when you sing. So yes I recon you can pray in all sorts of ways, as God knows whats in our hearts and worship, love and prayer can take many forms when it is sincere and heart felt.
Bless ya
P.S. That song "I can only Imagine" , well that really blows me away and I get goose bumps when I sing it (well try to sing it....you know shower singing or car singing or house-to-myself singing). This is a really powerful song that is like a crying out prayer to God. Anyway enough said

Excellent answer! I completely agree.

My church encourages and practices silent, spoken, and sung prayers. If whatever you are doing is making you feel closer to God, keep doing it!

Peace.

Yeah I agree with you, you don't like have to kneel down evrytime so that that can be prayer.
I believe that as long as your singing from you're heart, it is prayer :prayer:

Crys4God, I believe that praise is considered to be the highest form of prayer, and historically the most perfect expression of praise is sung.

Canticles, (such as the Magnificat of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and those of Moses at the Red Sea and Samuel's mother, Hannah at his birth,) are defined in Chambers Dictionary as songs of praise; on the other hand, in my Knox Bible, the angels are said to cry out to God their prayers of praise. In the final analysis, though, it would surely be the loving disposition of the heart of the person singing or "crying out" or speaking that matters.

I think that singing can definitely be a form of prayer. Look at David and the Psalms. I love to sing, (I wouldn't say I'm that great at it, but I have a go)

I find that most of my free time has to be taken in little snatches here and there, and I am teaching my son to sing some short Christian choruses that I grew up with. Some of these are based on scripture.

I'm not sure if I want to ask a question or just make a statement:
Jesus, being God in the flesh and One with God in fellowship, knew exactly how we should pray. Let's follow his example:

(taken from the New Living Translation because... it just is)

Matthew 6:

7"When you pray, don't babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered only by repeating their words again and again. 8Don't be like them, because your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9Pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,
may your name be honored.
10
May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done here on earth,
just as it is in heaven.
11
Give us our food for today,
12
and forgive us our sins,
just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us.
13
And don't let us yield to temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.

I do recognize that a good portion of this is considered petitioning the Lord, but what about the first half where Jesus is glorifying God for His power and majesty and Kingship over the earth and the heavens? That doesn't seem like just requests to me, but praises in a sense.

So in my opinion, I think prayer is a joining of many things: (praise, petition, confession, thanksgiving...). But whatever it is, it is an intimate moment between God and yourself.

And just in case this wasn't mentioned....
Let's not forget that through prayer God speaks to us. It's not just a monologue on our part, but it is a method by which we communicate with God, our betrothed, our love, our friend, our Abba. Let's not forget to hear what he has to say during these times. I so often forget to have my spiritual ears open as I pray. I forget to spend time in silence waiting for Him.

Sometimes I remind myself of Samuel...
1 Samuel 3
Not even knowing the Lord's voice when he calls on me. It takes multiple times for me to recognize his voice...

But anyway, I digress..

Yes, Singing is also a form of prayers. Prayers don't really take on a definite forms. sometimes i feel like writing a letter to God, sometimes I would just sing a hymn after I ponder on certain verses in the Bible, sometimes when I am overwhelmed with emotions, I'll just kneel down and cry...letting my feelings out to God. Singing is a wonderful way as prayer, not only worshipping...it's a form of thanksgiving. :)

Eleana well and good to sing psalms and S P I R I T U A L songs unto oneself-That's prayer.

CCM -Contemporary "christian" music is not...it's sexualised lies from the enemy, the women really confuse spirit with flesh and the noise is a disgrace unto God. More people will end up in the wrong place, because of all this taking the time from Bible reading and quiet prayer than perished in Gomorrah. watch and see-it became so bad in my church, I had to leave. Since when do we even pray given a throbbing head or being sexually tempted ?

sorry but it's going on...left , right and centre.

Yes Jason, I agree with you on the contempory music. Traditional hymns sung by some churches is quite okay and it's God-centred. I had been to some "mushroom" charismatic churches which use some pop singers theme song as worship songs and use alot of bands...it make the whole church seems like some day time disco club...it is really not right...alot of ppl be the members of those church...frankly speaking..they just enjoy the music. This types of songs is really not prayers.
