KCDAD said:How many times does marriage, wedding or derivitives of those words appear in The Bible? What words are translated as "marry, marriage and or wedding"? What else do these words mean? How else are they used?
Thank you.
What is the word translated as "divorce" in NT? What does it mean? How else is it used?
Lesson ended.

marriage isnt a piece of paper
When Isaac first saw his wife he took her to his tent and made love to her
For them marriage was more than sex... though sex sees to have been a very happy part of their lives...

What would we now call Isaac when he took a woman, made love to her and said that THIS was marriage???
God is immortal and unchanging. If something was wrong in the OT it is still wrong today. God does not change his mind about what constitutes sin.Belinda said:I think a 2nd edition of the bible needs to be written, lol
micknick said:God is immortal and unchanging. If something was wrong in the OT it is still wrong today. God does not change his mind about what constitutes sin. God doesn't change. Remember that. The Bible does and has changed many times. Look at what The Bible was when 2Timothy was written, or when Jesus or Isaiah spoke of The Word of God... What was The Bible when Jesus said not one word of The Law or Prophets would be altered until the last days... How about the endless debates about what should be put into the Canon? Did God decide what was finally put in or did The Roman Catholic Church?
Christianity is laying ourselves at God's command. We should submit to Him in everything. You have just described Islam.Through Jesus He has given us an opportunity to have eternal life and happiness, and yet "Christians" who supposedly believe this will still try to change the parts of the Bible that they dislike. It isn't about liking or disliking... it is about scholarship and critical thinking. Some elements of following Jesus will always be a struggle, I no I have serious trouble obeying the sexual regulations laid down by God, but they are a small price to pay for the comfort He grants me daily and any strife I go through pales into insignificance next to the paradise I will be granted by grace when I die.
micknick said:God is perfect. He always has been. Ability to change is only useful when you can be put in a situation where you need to change- why would an all knowing, all powerful God need to change? And anyway, just because He doesn't change does not mean He lacks the ability to. He demonstrates countless times through the Bible that He is faithful to His Word. This includes His law of what is right and wrong.
micknick said:If you want to second guess your Maker and Judge on what is right and wrong, do so at your peril. Critical thinking is a bit out of place when your criticising the Word of God. Compared to God our intelligence is as nothing. If He has declared something wrong, it is without question wrong; He defines right and wrong- who are you to argue?
micknick said:where does it say in the Bible that the Earth is flat, Heaven is up and hell is down... Jesus ascended into heaven and descended into hell....or that the sun revolves around it? The Sun stopped in the sky....The Jews, like Christians, accept the Torah as scripture. As scripture, written by man. That's what all the commentaries about the Torah are about (The Talmud for example) It was not penned by Gods hand (as the Ten Commandments were huh?) but Genesis through Deuteronomy is accepted by Jews and Christians as the inspired Word of God. Inspired (not dictated) word about God... So much so that Jewish boys had to learn it off by heart by age 12.
And I don't say turn off your brain. I say that it is futile to try and mentally outdo your creator, and that you can't "think your way round" His commandments in order to avoid obeying them. There are plenty of other uses you can put your brain to.
micknick said:KCDad- Believe what you may about the compilation of the New Testament, but the manuscripts of Hebrew scripture are still around for translation today. From the time when they were written they have remained unchanged. Copies were burned if one mistake was found so copies made millenia apart are practically identical. The Books of Law always condemned sex before marriage/ outside marriage.
He defines right and wrong- who are you to argue?
