• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That is what paul means when he teaches us to walk by faith not sight, and to look at that which is unseen rather than the earthly things we see.

You mean like having faith that he is really present in the Eucharist? Even if it looks like a plain wheat wafer?

"How readers have it right" is not the issue. It's "What is the authority?"

I'd like you, for once, to actually address the point I made.

HOW DOES TRADITION SOLVE THE PROBLEM YOU POINTED TO (i.e. DIFFERENT INTERPETATIONS)?

YES IT DOES, if YOU READ WITH INTENT OF UNDERSTANDING.

The bread from heaven is the indwelling holy spirit who teaches us all things. That has nothing to do with the Lords symbolic supper. Do you honestly think that Gods power is limited to carnal things like bread and wine? What if you found yourself in a position where you had no bread and wine? What would you do then? Would Christ forsake you? Nope.

You know, I know people who underline things on greeting cards they send, in order to show that this is meaningful to them, but often it means little. The same can be said for you, copying and pasting Scripture, then bolding and underlining snippets.. Besides, the Church Fathers disagree with your interpretation!

You mean your fathers? Paul didn't disagree.

John 6:35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

Christ said he would never leave or forsake us. Why then should i believe that if i dont have bread and wine that he will forsake me? What about people who are put into anti Christian Islamic prisons? They dont have wine i bet, does the Lord forsake them? Surely not. Shouldnt we look at the Lords supper as symbolic in meaning?

Not to worry. We may not understand but we can just buy a few indulgences and things will be ok.

Whoa! SLAM! yuk, yuk, kneeslap. Just proves another thing you guys get wrong. Anyone who cares knows that the Church never sold, and never will sell indugences. You really ought to study what the Church teaches before you criticize.

If Church has all the answers then why do people come onto this forum to exchange ideas? Isn't their church tradition and leaders enough?

I come here to try to correct your errors on what my Church teaches. But most of you have no need for accuracy. Sorta like Hillary Clinton "What difference does it make???" This one is about eternal life.

Indeed. Exactly what the Catholic Church does.

All our dogmas and doctrines are supported by Scripture.

We agree, too. Works do not save you of themselves.

You are your own pope because you trust only your own interpretation of what's written. And don't tell me you don't interpret Scripture-everybody interprets Scripture. You are a church of one.

You must admit you havent been able to refute anything i have said. That may be an indication that i am right. Not that i wish to be right and others wrong, its just that i wish to know the truth which sets us free, and to live in peace with all men.

Is that what's important to you? Being right in the argument? We know the Truth if we seek it humbly and honestly. The Catholic Church has done an amazing amount of work on it over the 2000 years of her existence.

Judge not my brother. You have no idea what you are actually judging. If the Lord does lead me then its Him you are judging, not me.

Context, please. Who was Jesus just criticizing?

If you wouldn't have taken my words out of context then you would have seen that im only interested in the truth which sets us free. Please try to understand my words and judge them more carefully.

But God told us who to listen to-the ordained ministerial priesthood...it's you that doesn't like the truth. Purgatory is inconvenient, the Real Presence of Christ is inconvenient. The seven Deuterocanonicals contain inconvenient truth-so you just remove them from your consciousness. God is love, Love is Sacrifice.

Brother, he was talking to the brethren.

That scripture agrees with Pauls words that say not to glory in men,

and Johns words where he says we need no teacher,

and the Lords words where he said the spirit would teach us all things,

and jeremiah's words that say God will put His laws in our min and on our heart.

The scripture is clearly sound doctrine for the church.

There is a physical element to ordination-the laying on of hands of those who have been ordained before. Even Paul sought the laying on of hands of Peter and James.

The Church believes that Christ remains in us for 15 minutes after we consume the Body and Precious Blood. Once the accidents of bread and wine are changed, they are no longer the Body and Blood. Try investigating that!

And you believe that?
