Is schooling that important 2 U??

Honestly..I never gave my full attention and my full potential in school. Either I wasnt interested in the things that was taught.Or I was tryna holla at a female.."lol". I made all the grades from A-U and because of different classes gave more effort to classes I was interested in.My mom stressed the importance of a education when I was young but when I hit middle school, it was kinda like she just left me out there. Im a senior in high school now and I really "you can say take care of myself" I hadnt talked to my mother in awhile now "but thats another story"...I think the goal of college at the end is "MAKING MONEY" and hopefully going into a field that you like. To me Money will come and go like that wind. You have it, then its gone. I just wanna live a normal life. As long as my family is fed, clothes on everybody, food on the table, and nobody aint wanting for anything i feel am very "BLESSED".Maybe because i really never had anything, a single parent home, and two younger brothers. I'm I settling for less?I been thinking about this for along time and just want how people my age feel.

Thank You

The goal of college should be to learn, to walk away with more than a diploma. You should walk away with an education in the true sense of the word. I love what I study. I appreciate the opportunity that I have before me. I don't desire money, but I enjoy the idea of being able to do what I love to do as a career.
As far as money goes, without a college degree you will go through life with someone's hand on your head holding you down. That gets old after a few years. You spend 5 years at a job and never get promoted. Meanwhile the idiots who have degrees get hired on above you and do less. They tell you what to do. You know you could do their job better than them because you are the one who is constantly fixing their mistakes. Any problem they have ends up being put on you as your responsibility. You are the pee-on scapegoat gopher boy and will never be anything more. You get frustrated and quit. You get another job which ends up the same. By the time you're 30 you have nothing. You live in a run down apartment where nothing works right. Your landlord is a jerk. You can't afford to get your wasted car repaired or buy another one. You have no furniture and you live on rice and beans because you don't make enough money to feed yourself. You can't go rent a movie because you don't have the money. You can't buy a book to read because you don't have the money. You get up at 5 to go to work and get home at 7 or 8 at night ready to fall over dead. Finally you realize that that degree wasn't about making money. It was about providing a decent living. It was about being able to live life without driving yourself into your grave because you know that until you are finally there you will never have time to enjoy life. It's about being able to buy your wife some flowers instead of stealing them from the neighbor's yard. It's about being able to buy your kids some shoes when their feet fall out of the sides. It's about giving your family a decent life instead of the run down impoverished rat reace of exhaustion oppression and dirt and filth that you have to offer them.
Why do you think I'm back in school?
That's what it's about.

Education is extremely important. Not just for your personal job and money, but your kids too... when they come home and are having problems with their math (if they evert left home to go to school ;)), don't you want to be able to help them? That sort of thing.

The more education you can get, the better. :)

after high school, i spent a couple years in college and graduated with a two year degree. i figured that was enough so i decided against furthering my education. i ignored the pressures of my folks and my "rich" aunt and uncle who insisted that a bachelors degree(at least) was the recipe for success and happiness.

that was seven years ago. i turned my back on the degree i received and have been working temp jobs and making sorry pay ever since. am i successful and happy? yes.

i don't care about money...i make do with less. i don't have a secure job or a secure future...i let tomorrow worry about itself. sometimes i work, sometimes i travel. i have the greatest friends and a loving family. i have dedicated my life to helping others and jesus resides deep within my heart. i am incredibly successful and unbelievably happy. no question about it.

now i'm not telling you to follow my path. but i am telling you to follow your heart. if your heart leds you to a college education, then more power to you; but if your heart, instead, leds you down a different path(like mine) then don't hesistate to walk upon that path. you will not be any less of a man.

Education is insanely important. Not just to make money, I want to spend some serious years in school and come out making no money, in the ministry. It will help dramatically in the years to come...and you should just want to broaden your knowledge. Learning is fascinating. And if you can make a living doing what you enjoy, then that really rocks.

Till my baccalaureat (at 17) i've been at school because i didn't have the choice, and i didn't really like it. Bu now i can say that, even if i don't like "school", i like learning. After my "bac", i decided to study mathematics, and as it is what i really love, wow, i have pleasure to attend my maths courses.
I think that it is great to learn, you can't regret it, even if you have to work hard. Yet, i advise you to learn what you like best, it is easier to work on sth you enjoy. :) :)

education is very important, even if you don't want a job that requires a college degree. education exposes you to new ideas, you meet a variety of people and come to understand different perspectives and cultures. also it opens up more opportunities for you, even social ones, and you usually have more interesting experiences becaue of it.
that said, i'm a strong advocate for taking some time off between hs and college. travel. work. lounge around. get some perspective on life and what you want to do so you can appreciate your opportunities when you're in college. so many people waste thousands of dollars on education when they aren't ready or interested, and then they go out partying and accomplish nothing. may as well do that without paying 10,000 for college when you're not into it.

At 25, I still can't bring myself around to want to go to school. I never liked school, not even in elementary. The committment of having to attend class at certain times on certain days, to sit at a desk and read/listen/write... ugh. I am good at all three, but I just can't bring myself around to doing it. Maybe trade school would be better for me? But still, I wouldn't know which path to take there either.

I currently enjoy my job very much, I love my co-workers, I find significance in the job itself, I get to drive all over the Bay Area and even to Sacramento or sometimes L.A. It's all an experience that I am greatly appreciating at this stage of my life, as I realize that this job is the experience of a lifetime. Most importantly, I try to glorify God as I go, and I minister to people as opportunities arise. I am respected & well-liked amongst almost all my co-workers, which provides great opportunities to "let my light shine."

So here I sit, for now. If & when it's time to hit the books, or get into vocational school, I will know it. For now, I make the most of what I've got. And thank you Jesus.

I think it really depends on your definition of success. If you'd be happy, say, working fast food for the rest of your life (and some people are) go for it.

I personally am not. I really don't like school too much but it's a means to an end. I like the learning environment and networking aspect but I just wish I did better on tests. I do go to school because a want a job that makes a decent income, so yes, it is about money.

I found school for me was a one dimensional learning environment, I definitely fell through the cracks, not everyone learns by reading and then writing assignments, I'm a hands on learner so I pretty much just shut off for most of my school experience, there where glimpses of hope in practical classes. But now I can learn more in a week using the internet than I would in a whole year in the school system.

I agree with a lot of the others here higher education has become a necessary evil in the daily lives of people. I personally don't feel like i need college for what i hope to do which is business. But i know that you have to plan for the worse so i decided to make my family happy and go to college even though i barely passed and graduated high school. My grades sucked (2.1 gpa) and i hated school but now being a Junior in college i see that its not that bad at all. I schedule my classes how i want to and don't really see any reason to skip class as im only wasting money if i do.

I've also learned a great deal now that im in my major specific courses (Finance) and its already helped me to make better business decisions and to start making more money right now. Now even though i hated high school and college is a throusand times more difficult, i will say its worth it in the end. You just have to work hard and actually try to achieve what you want just like with anything in life. I now have a 3.87 gpa in college and laugh pretty hard when i remember my high shcool telling me there was no way i could graduate.
