Is "Reformed" different from "Evangelical"?

it appears that:
fundamentalism is a proper subset of evangelicalism.
that most Reformed are evangelical but not all, protestant reformed for example, perhaps the leading left edge of liberal Presbyterian as well.
in turn, evangelicals are a proper subset of protestants.

I think you just confused me some more. :D "Protestant reformed"? Are you saying there are Catholic or EO reformed? I was completely unaware of this.

I disagree with characterizing PRC as hypercalvinist. They do believe in preaching to unregenerate, they do believe that unregenerate are to be commanded to repent and believe. What they do not believe is the so-called "common grace".

BTW, I am not PRC.

there is an extremely good essay on hypercalvinism at:
http://www.planetkc.com/puritan/Articles/DoctrinalObstaclesToEvangelism.htm

perhaps the characterization of the PRC as uniformally hypercalvinist is not correct, and i would be open to learning more. i have only limited experience with the group as it influenced the OPC in southern Maine, and perhaps that experience is being unjustly generalized.

i have no desire to hijack this thread onto a discussion of hypercalvinism, so i started another thread. the issue was simply that there exist reformed that are not evangelical.

Yes !This is also the case in my own denomination of the Church of Scotland of which 1/3 is evangelical with the remaining 2/3s being liberal. Of the 1/3 evangelical (around 400) Only about 100 of those would be considered Calvinistic in their theology. I would argue that liberalism is not reformed theology in its purest form !
