It is a question we better be able to answer, for the days are approaching that without being found kept by the power of God through faith, we will be in deep doo-doo. God has promised clearly that we will stand against satan's attempts to pull us down, and all his attacking will all be for nought. ALL his arrows are to be quenched, so much so that we are to be empowered to count it all joy when the temptations fly! How can this be unless we can mount up with wings of eagles and not fall? Victory is our promise, our heritage. Shall we not walk in what Christ died to give us?
So what is our hold-up? If we are to be completely honest with one another, pride and confidence in the flesh are our downfall, as faith in His promises can only be believed when one is on their knees. Until this happens, worldliness and religiousity are the result.
Until we stand as men who are no longer in the flesh, but as new creatures, the promises of our loving Father, although true, cannot benefit us. We began by total faith in Him and we must walk on the same way. Self-effort is our enemy. How easliy we have overlooked that self control must be a fruit of the spirit abiding in us, not white knuckle strangling of our fleshly nature. It simply does not work.
"Wherefore are given to us exceeding great and precious promises, that by these, we might be partakers of the divine nature".
It is this amazing faith that can lift us out of our blahs, our failures, our wanderings, our empty prayer closets and put joy into our hearts. It is the lack of this 'knowing of the truth" that is the result of the "grievous wolves, not sparing the flock" that Paul knew were coming after His demise.
But praise God, He is again restoring this understanding of the power of the new nature, but our fallow ground cannot germinate His many seeds of truth. It must first be plowed until we are compltely broken of all confidence in our flesh and we realize if we are to walk victoriously, it MUST be Him in us.
The news is so good that we can scarcely take it in. Paul said "It is no longer I that live but Christ who lives in me'". Did he expect us to 'arrive" at this position after a lifelong battle with the old nature? No. It is the gift of God. It is Christ in us, the hope of glory. We are dead to the old nature. Not dying....DEAD. We are alive to God, light in the Lord NOW.
Shall we be among the 600,000 men, called of God, whose bones bleached in the wilderness for their refusal to believe the truth that what He had promised, he was also able to perform? Or shall we aline ourselves with the two spies, Joshua and Caleb who refused to doubt God's promise and urged Gods's eople to go in and possess the land of milk and honey?
He says, against all human wisdom, that we too can take the land, Shall we no rather be like the two spies who said "If God said it, I believe it. I do not care what I see in me. I do not care how weak and unworthy I feelI feel. My faith is in the words of our Lord. That is all I need."
IN Revelations 19, we are told that the saints overcamer the wicked one, not just by the blood of the lamb, but by the words of THEIR testimony. So, we need to all ask ourselves "Who are we? What do we believe about ourselves? Are we still just old sinners, thinking our "humility" is pleasing to God? ? Are we darkness trying desperately to become light?
No. We are told clearly from His word that indeed we WERE wretched sinners. But we are washed, we are new creatures, and we owe the flesh NOTHING any more". NOTHING. We are free and our fight is from that position of freedom, not our lame self efforts to get free.? NOW we are light in the Lord.
These truths, yes truths, are given to us to become our shield of faith that quenches satan's accusations and flaming arrows of temptation. These promises are what allows us to be overcomers. These truths and holding on to them with all that is within us are what allows Chris to dwell in our hearts...by faith.
What does being "born form above" or "born again" really mean? Is it not that we are no longer the old men we were? Is this not what strengthens us, knowing we owe the flesh nothing any longer...NOTHING?
People say to confess such bold statements is the utmost in pride and will lead to our downfall. My response is that it is the utmost is pride to stay where we are...unfruitful, unfaithful, and so weakened by the enemy that we do indeed blasphenme His Holy name wherever we go. Based on what the world sees in how our religion has affected our daily lives, they run. Can you really blame them?
The world is waiting for a church that says, through tears "IT WORKS! IT WORKS! He has freed me from ME! If God can change me and give me full victory, the chief of sinners, He will surely do it for you. Come, drink of the waters of life freely!"
I treasure all God shares with me, and take no pride in having it revealed to me, but indeed He has and I am not worthy. It was becasue I was so much more in need, so bound by porn and pride and impatience and worldliness that His mercy grabbed me when I cried out for the deliverance so clearly promised in His word.
I make no bones about it. The process works. The freedom is real, palpable, measurable. The joy of having that hard old yoke of self effort off ones neck is undescribable. The broken man, rreaching out with but mustard seed faith becmes different, kinder, gentler, less judgemental. The fruits of the spirit really do grow out of ones belly and the one most amazed is the one possessing fruits he has longed to see for decades of serving our Lord. Lord'sJesus asks each of us this question:
"Believe thou that I can do this?".
You say you are weak, and always seem to fail. Perfect! You are the one God is seeking to display to the world his amazing transforming power.
Victory, freedom from the old nature that chaffs against the whisperings of God, is not to the strong, or to the smart, but to the broken. That is the one to whom faith is given. That is the one who is readuy to mount up with wings of eagles and run and not get weary and walk and not faint.
May God breath on the seed faith still abiding in every believer. May life spring forth and unbelief be exposed as the sin it really is. It is not a weakness. It calls the very trustworthyness of our loving Father into question.
Are you ready to say "NO more!"? Are you ready to climb out of the boat of self effort and walk on the water, though the winds and waves rage? May it be, may it be.
Live, bones, live.
Many blessings,
Gideon
