I do not think he is knowingly racist. I think he has prejudices that many Americans have, but nothing more then the average Joe. So while I vote other (it is hard to be without prejudices), I would say in general, no, Bush is not racist.

It was kind of what I was arguing because it doesn't seem skin color/ethnicity is sufficient.

Anybody can be a party of any community based on a combination of ideology and lifestyle, IMAO of course.

I think Bush can't relate to middle class or poorer people; I think he can relate more to millionaires and celebrities like OJ Simpson more than the poor white Hurricane Katrina victim in Mississippi.

And you just defined every single politician in the US. Congrats.

The fact that Bush didn't react quickly or viscerally to the suffering of the black New Orleans residents speaks less of racism and more of a complete lack of compassion for poor people

You're right... racists tend to surround themselves, in positions of power, with those who they hate and/or despise.

OK, here is the skinny. Ever since the 2000 election the Democratic elite has held George W. in such contempt because they believed that they were entitled to a Gore Presidency. (it is even painful to type that) But they, the Democrats, had nothing of substance with which to oppose Bush. So they go to their old play book from the 60's, 70's and 80's and pull out the ultimate trump card: "Racist!!!" And they have been harping on it for the last 5 1/2 years.

The idea that only a true racist would place people of race in positions of authority has to be one of the most vacuous arguments I have ever heard. But it illustrates my point: those who oppose Bush have become so overwhelmed with this seething hatred that their arguments have begun to defy all logic!

There are many issues with which I disagree with the President, illegal immigration being one of them, but to paint him as a racist is totally assinine. And only the totally gullable could truly believe it.

I believe it was Hitler's minister of propaganda Joseph Goebels who said that "The easiest way to insure that the people believe a lie is to make it as absurd as possible."

The idea that George W. Bush is a racist is an excellent example of that principle at work.

Well, now that you want to go digging up graves... you're right. The Democrats did get screwed out of the 2000 election, and for some time the entire party felt quite jaded about the matter. It was almost as bad as the Superbowl this year...

But no. Bush isn't a racist in any significant sense of the word... and in all fairness, we all have some slight racist tendencies. You're not perfect, nor am I.

But Bush isn't notably worse than anybody else.
